Having high cholesterol is more to do with the amount your body produces. If it's over-zealous, your arteries can get furred up. Apparently it's a genetic thing. My sister's husband has high cholesterol and he is about 9 stone! His brother and Dad all had heart disease at a very young age, so in his case it is genetic. Mind you, cholesterol is only present in the body from eating saturated fat, mainly found in meat and meat products. So, if you are worried about it, cut down on those!
