I'm due to go for an MRI scan (not looking forward to it at all, I must add) on the paper they gave me it states to take off all jewellery and wear no make-up.
First question: I can't take my wedding ring off, so what do I do.
Second question: why no make-up? surely there's no metals in make-up!
By the way, it's for a 'down below' scan so the make-up might not apply here. Hope someone can help.

Just realised it's MRI scan!!!!
;-) RMI 'Royal Military Intelligence' Oooooooooh, think I prefer that!

Am sure your ring wont matter. All the best!
I think some mascara can contain metal compounds in it.

I had to take all my jewellery off for mine, are you able to grease it off somehow?

I think metal affects the bits of the MRI machine somehow and, therefore, I'd assume, the results.
what a load of crap you go in the tunnel with no adornments, you can wear make make up common sense prevails!!!
went into the tunnel was never asked where did you get this in info!!!

puddicat on the paper they gave me to fill in before the examination. I assure you I'm not talking a lot of crap..
had a mri scan never offered a paper, you dont wear jewellery as part of of the course, and common sense!!!,
I went for an MRI scan on my head, was asked to take off my earrings and necklace but that was all. If in doubt, ring the hospital.
they didnt ask me about taking jewellery off. it's really eerie though - i have 8 studs in 1 ear and as the magnet was going off and on my ear was flapping as the magnet pulled the lobe towards it! also when i was lying down, my feet kept moving and it was because of the metal eyelets in my lace ups! weird!
Maybe it depends on where you're having it done, I had my brain done and they made me take off everything metal including my belly stud.

bedknobs you didn't even have to take your shoes off?
Apparently, after surf about you can leave your wedding ring on though they say you can get a pulling feeling on your finger. Eye make-up is also a no-no.
Thanks everyone for your help and kind words...
no, didnt ask to take shoes off. mine was of hips
Question Author
sorry; surfing about
Of course you have to take all metal jewellery off,MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, the magnet used is very powerful. If you were to have an MRI scan and had metal implants for example, the magnet would likely rip them straight out of your body.It would also break the scanner.
coccinelle good luck with the scan hope all goes well.

thanks mamyalynne for your kind words.
daffy; you don't have to take all jewellery off, wedding rings are allowed and bednobs left her earrings in and her shoes... and no way can the machine PULL them out of your body!
Hope all goes well for you coccinelle.

I've had three MRI scans & kept my usual little bit of make up on, mascara & lippy. I had to take out my earings, but they taped around my wedding ring each time.

Well, daffy after that I don't think I'll be going for my MRI.... Something might knock me out while I'm in there, no, it's far too dangerous and not at all healthy for the system
The second link was put in for comedy reasons really,it does show you how powerful the magnet is in the scanner though.lol
I know at our local hospital they do make you remove all jewellery before they allow you into the scanner room, never mind the actual scanner (my mum had to have a ring removed using ice and lubricant),they also give you a hospital gown to wear, you are not allowed to wear your street clothes.
