large bruise
7 Answers
about 10 days ago i had quite a hard fall where i landed on a glass bottle (in nightclub) and i have a huge bruise on my left buttock. After about 3 or 4 days when the bruise came out black/purple i notced it had swelled and could feel a firm lump underneath. The bruise is now a normal colour in the center leaving a purple ring, but i still have the hard lump - maybe just bigger than a wallnut. It is uncomfortable and sometimes painful when i sit down or put weight on that side. I wanted to know if there is any chance this could have caused a blood clot and if this would be dangerous, or if it could be something else? If it could be a blood clot then will it shink away or would this be bad if it started floating around? Am i just being daft? Please help as i am not type to go to a doctor without a definate reason.

Months later the bruise had long disappeared but the dent hadn't so I eventually went to the doctor who told me that it happens when you're hit so hard that the fatty tissue can become dead and so takes ages to go back to normal, which it should do. If you are worried though, just go! What's the worst they can say? And that's what GP's are there for. You never know you might brighten their day by flashing your bum when othe people are going in with nasty rashes and drippy things.

Don't forget that nobody here can offer the same level of professional, informed advice that a GP who examines the lump can. This site can offer good advice, but it's only advice. If you have a medical question, it is always best to ask a professional.
AB ed is quite right -- if in doubt, go to a doctor. Better to be slightly embarrassed over a trivial problem than seriously ill from a major one you didn't get checked.
I think what you have is a haematoma, which is, if I remember right, a bad bruise which develops some scar tissue. I don't know if there is a risk of clots.
I was headbutted by a cow last winter in my thigh. Fortunately it didn't quite break, but for two or three months I had a sore haematoma like what you describe (she didn't hurt her head....).
I read something interesting recently that relates to this. A very obese woman went to the doctor with pain and a hard lump in her buttock. The doctor removed a pork chop bone that she had sat on a year before! Comedy aside, you landed on a glass bottle and there is a good chance that some glass could have embedded in there..best to get it checked ha3el.
physiotherapist here> the lump you are feeling is scar tissue forming after the haematoma got resolved. it will never quite disappear (it will always show on MRI scanning) however fatty tissue will even it out, making your soft behind round and smooth once more :) As said prev all you can do is warm the part up with a hot water bottle and massage it deeply. Also you have to stretch and work out your gluteii.
