Yes. A report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), published last year, found men aged 45 and over who live alone will die sooner than those living with a partner.
The figures are: men over 45 who live alone are 23% more likely to die than their married peers; for divorced men it's 30%; and 20% or those who are widowers.
Social factors, such as employement, also have an effect.
