bailey bird, that's awful, I mean your parents sill carried on even though they where humiliating their kids. Sad indeed.

What I don't get is, how do late people get and hold down jobs? More to the point why have they got any friends at all?

I don't know !

we tolerate it cos they are our parents but can understand why other people don't.!!

I hate being late and there are certain friends I now only arrange to meet somewhere I can happily sit and wait like in a coffee shop.

Drives me mad but I know they won't change so I try and soften the blow by not expecting them to come before a certain time after we agreed to meet.
DOWN WITH THE LATER PEOPLE!
(Don't you agree?)
I agree with you all . I can't understand people being late. It's lack of consideration and I'm sorry; someone who doesn't consider the fact I'm stuck waiting, wasting my time can't be my friend. OK a one off does happen but not on a regular basis. There are lots of people I don't give a time to as I know they won't turn up on time.
What gets me the most are those who say they'll pop in during the afternoon or whatever and never turn up: it means you stayed in and on top of that didn't start on anything like painting, decorating expecting them! What a wasted afternoon.
my dad will sit there while we all go around getting ourselves ready...then when we are all standing at the front door, coats on, literally ready to leave...he will get up and just 'quickly nip to the loo', then get his hat, coat...have to find his glasses, keys etc...every time!!!!

drives us all mad... he seems to think that because each of these things only takes moments to do ...that he can wait to do them...but togther...we end up standing there for 5-10 mins...

i also think there is an element of a power trip in there too..because he will usually be driving ...so we must wait...grrrr
I absolutely relate to baileybird. My parents were exactly the same and we'd arrive at functions to a frosty reception and I would be cringing.

The result is I'm a bit OCD about it myself now and arrive early. I get aggitated if I'm going to be late, I get aggitated if someone else is late.
Love this thread!!!!

I don't go out very often but occasionally meet with a group of friends for a meal....one of which was always late! Our time is precious....we are all single, working Mums who would have to arrange baby-sitters etc.....so a few months back when arranging our Christmas Evening meal out, when asked by her what time we were meeting, I replied that WE were all meeting at 8, but expected her at 9.....she laughed until I pointed out that that was fine as it would give us a chance to talk about her!!!!! [jokingly!!!!!]
Guess who got there on time!!!!!

LOL, good tactic! x
I can't abide lateness, it's one thing that really irritates me. However I confess to being a bit obsessive the other way. I always like to arrive early for everything. If I had a dental appointment at a 9.15 am I'd be getting agitated if I couldn't be there for 9! I have friends who are always late for everything. Some people like to make a grand entrance I think when all others are assembled. Grrrrrr!!
I was once late meeting my father. He quietly commented that it was arrogant to be late as it asumes your time is more important than that of the person you were meeting. I cringed but he was right. I am now rather time anxious and am NEVER late. I have a brother who is habitually late and I give him a time half an hour earlier. He's never noticed and I don't get annoyed anymore. Problem solved
my Mum (RIP) was always late - well known for it. It was awful when I was a kid waiting to be picked up. At primary school I had to wait outside for her to collect me and I was usually there for ages on my own. Sometimes someone used to come out and take me back inside. At the next school she was supposed to collect me from the bus stop. If she wasn't there I had to start walking towards home which was a mile down a country lane with no houses for about 2/3 of the journey. Used to walk all the way home most days. Guess people wouldn't let their kids do that these days for fear of what might happen to them. Whenever she went out for the day or went shopping, etc. she was always late home and late to collect me from other houses so I was always the last one to leave a birthday party.

So much better with mobile phones, etc. these days as people can call with an eta.

Made me determined to be completely different so I've always tried really hard to be reliable and a good timekeeper.
My best friend is a late arriver too, it really hacks me off when she arrives late, it's just so rude.

My Aunt and uncle are big offenders. My aunt was even late to her own dad's funeral, and we had to stand around with the funeral director akwardly waiting for her to arrive. It was mid winter, and the crem was really busy, like a conveyor belt, and everyone had a very strict time slot, eventualy the funeral had to be cut short by one hymn, as there just wasn't time for it, which i thought was disgusting.
When i got married, i had to resort to lying to them about what time the cermony was, just so they would not be late
