daughter prob down below
49 Answers
Hi everyone, i took my 9 yr old daughter to doc today, as she has like a small cyst on her girlie bits, which has now popped and has clear fluid oozing out.
She is red down there and the skin looks a bit crumpled, also her clitoris is constantly hard and is painful to touch.
The doc didnt even look, all he said was put on some cream he gave me for the cyst. We were in there for 2 mins max!
What should i do? I am concerned, as this problem with the hard clitoris has benn going on for months, only made worse by this cyst.
I feel very let down now, and am worried as its causing discomfort for her.
Any ideas on what i should do or what it could be would be hugely appreciated!! xx

I really dont think this is a good idea, as nurses cant possible be able to spot certain things doctors can.
But i have also made an appointment to see our own doctor who does a gynae clinic too, but thats 8 days away, the only one they had! Making a child wait that long is not right!!
If i was paying she would be seen asap, and be treated with respect and priority! I wish i could afford it!
Makes me so angry, i had to pay for private treatment once and was seen next day and was a real eye opener as to how we should be treated, paying or not!!

Whoops:
I am afraid that I would go to A&E, my child's welfare would come first. Whether I am overloading A&E wouldn't worry me in these circumstances.
I hope sheribee does get to see another Doctor, this evening. I would demand it - but some people, especially when they are distressed like sheribee, can't handle being demanding.

Well she's had this problem for some time, and 8 days won't make that much difference in the great scheme of things, especially as she is seeing the nurse tomorrow.
The nurse will be very familiar with 'normal' and if she has cause for concern I'm sure your daughter will be referred straight back to the doctor.
I do it all goes well.

All this bother and to-ing and fro-ing by sheribee and her daughter would not have happened if the doctor had just done a quick examination. I expect he was running late so trying to catch up. It's just not fair at all. I would actually make a complaint to the practice manager. Sheribee's first visit was a complete waste of time.
I must admit in our own practice now it seems more and more that you have to see a nurse first who makes the decision on whether you need a doctor or not.

lofty, I sympathise with your thoughts, but cannot understand your logic. This child would be seen by a doctor, with at best a scant knowledge of this problem and the advice would be to go back to your GP....a total waste of a busy doctor's time. In this case your child's welfare would be compromised.

Its so mad, he made no reference to her problem with her clitoris at all, just to this cyst.
He is normally good, but coz it was an emergency appointment i got the feeling i was not classed as an emergency and he wasnt impressed at me taking up this appointment!
I live 20 mins away from the hospital, and i think it would distress her to go to a&e, but it is tempting!
I just hate that she is in discomfort and has to wait! how is it possible to tell a child that she has to suffer, i wanna make it better.

Of course you do, you're her Mum and I would feel exactly the same. Not too long to wait until tomorrow. But today has been a waste of your time and has increased your stress about the whole thing. I would have taken up an emergency appointment today as you did. Doctors should not be neglectful just because they are peeved. He did not do his job properly. No-one can argue that he should have prescribed cream for something he had not even seen.
When you have settled down and feel calmer, then I do think you have to make a complaint.
Good luck for tomorrow.

I had the same problem not long ago & my doctor examined me and took swabs. She gave me antibiotics which cleared them up(i had 3 cysts). As squad said she said it was likley to be 'Bartholins Cysts' which is an inflammation of the glands & is very common(don't know about younger people). She told me to go straight back & see her if they came back.
Yes I did mention Bartholins Cysts, but they are extremely uncommon in 9yr olds. For me, I would go for a bacterial infection probably transferred from the anal region, a staphylococcus or even perhaps a fungal infection, either of which could well be settled by antibiotic or anti fungal creams.
A swab may have to be taken from the affected area and sent to the lab.

Its def not a bartholins cyst, i used to work as hca on gynae wards and its not in the right place, its filling again with fluid too. She had a bath and i looked again, still red surrounding the area, and she has been crying this eve too, its killing me she is like that. Doc gave anti fungal cream, but she wouldnt put it on coz it hurt so much to touch the area, i feel like i let her down by not standing up to the doc!!
Could be a boil which has burst, maybe an infected hair follicle.
Is she diabetic? may be worth a blood sugar test esp if she has any other symptoms.
I get recurrent ones, especially when I'm coming down with something. Horribly painful!
Don't be embarrassed about a second opinion by another GP. I had an awful locum when I found a lump in my breast at uni and had to be shoved back to the doctors by a Canadian friend who was appalled at what had happened.
I saw a female doctor who was nothing but apologetic and found two lumps when he couldn't even be bothered to examine me properly or even make a note I'd been in.
A local womens clinic could also be a possibility as I remember one I went to referring me to gynae for a lump near my crevix they found during a smear.
