Can anyone fill me and my husband in on any side effects from taking insulin? He is convinced his farting is down to the drug(yup, right) and he says his skin is getting bad. Also, he lost 2 stone before diagnosis a month ago; does insulin pile weight on? We don't seem to get many real answers at the hospital and we would be really grateful for any home truths........

My brother's been a diabetic since 2 years old.  Never piled weight on (until he gave up smoking).  His backside does reek though I think this is to do with the real ale he consumes.  No bad skin either.

< P>The Diabetes UK website might be of help.

Hi sunflower, I can understand all the confusion...I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetis earlier this year, and there didn't seem much info at the hospital. Having done alot of googling I found these site, which have lots of help.  Fortunately mine is diet controlled, so I don't know much about the effects of insulin.

Thanks so much for your help. All the websites have been brilliant.
Sunflower, I joined after your post.  I have been a type 1 diabetic for 10 years - post again if I can help.  Weight loss issues are common - farting I'm not convince about!
