free loan of disability aids

H, does anyone know where or if anyone loans out disability aids for elderly people after a hip operation in the Thanet area f Kent. Thankyou

Your hospital should have loaned you them. Mine did. If you have problems though your GP should be able to sort out for you. You could also try Help the Aged.

I would think this would be down to your local social services. the hospital should advise, and probably arrange for whatever is needed.

Red Cross are always a good bet for short term loans but if op done on NHS the hospital should of supplied what she neededIn my area, Staffordshire, Social Services provide certain longer term aids but you can check with the local office where the person has had the hip op livesThe local Age Concern may be able to offer advice

I cannot speak for your area , but my Uncle who was severly disabled through a number of strokes had all sorts of equipment.This included a stair lift,commode, a walk in shower etc.

He started of by getting a social worker, who did an assessment , and then organised everything for him, the occupational therapist etc.

He was reluctant at first to get a social worker because he thought they would be looking at his bank books etc..
But honestly it was not like that at all.The social worker arranged for the occupational therapist to come , and all his equipment was as you say on loan.When he died at the age of 90 in Nov 2008 , they were brilliant and collected it for others to use.
My Mum had equipment on loan from the S.S for her hip replacement as well, this was a walking frame, a thing to raise the toilet , walking sticks etc.

So please give them a ring --just say I would like a social worker to visit me I am having some mobility probs.

Social Services were brilliant to someone I know. They provided temporary handrails in the bathroom and by the back door, fitted blocks to the chair so that this elderly woman could get up from it easier, and put a loud alert on her phone so that she could hear it properly. They also offered lots of other things, and they were only returned when sadly, this person passed away two years later.
