Does a high level of proteins cause nightmares or is this a myth?

I don't know about protein, but a lack of vitamin B1 is known to cause anxiety or nightmares.
The old myth comes from the fact that if you eat a heavy meal before bed then you are likely to have disturbed sleep. This is simply due to discomfort.
