Waiting to go into hospital to have a stomach hernia repaired. I have a phobia about hospitals, needles, blood etc., and really need some help with this. Is there anyhing I can take (or get) to overcome this fear?

You could try hypnotherapy or some positive affirmations.

Is there anything specific which scares you or a cause for it that you could target to try and get over the fear?
you could talk to the doctor, they are great at putting your mind at rest, try to think of the positives. good luck xx
Hi shaking xx i too have a fear of going into hospital xx
I have anxiety anyway, but the thought of being put to sleep is just to me like signing away my life x lol i have avoided an op for 4 years now, and suffered for it! but i still wont have it done coz im sure i will die! ( which i kno deep down i wont!)
The fear will always be there, but talk to ur consultant and ask about the pre op drugs they can give you to keep you calm, and they could give you some temazepam for afterwards too x
I hope someone gives you some answers as i could do with some too xx good luck x lots of love xx

Bachs rescue remedy is very innocuous and natural but amazingly effective and available at lots of chemists.

Hi Ruthann58 and Mamyalynne
Thank you for your support, yes I have been to hell and back since Christmas but things can only get better. I am trying to get on with life but other hurdles appear like this hernia I have got, perhaps it is with lifting etc, who knows. Missing mum so much it has changed all my routine, feel like I am in a black hole. I am worried about the operation I face because I am asthmatic, another problem!! I believe in fate so what has to be will be and nothing I can do will change things. Nice to know there are people like you out there with support. Thank you.
Don't think of an injection as a needle. think of it as a "scratch". If you visualise a branch scraping you as you walk past it, it is exactly the same type and amount of "pain" as an injection. ie- hardly anything at all! Or imagine someone scratching you with a fingernail. Just imagining a scratch rather than a needle makes the whole thing infinitely less painful!

Thanks Scarlett, know it won't hurt, it is fear of the unknown really, wish it was all over.
