mirena coil

Does anyone know if one of the side effects of the mirena coil is weight gain? I have put on a stone in 16 months. Many thanks

I have had a Mirena since 2006. Since then I have lost 3.5 stones on the lighter life programme. It is not the coil, something else must be to blame. Good luck

I had one for a couple of years and my weight did not alter at all

I had one of these fitted about 15 years ago and I became very bloated and lethargic.... plus it was very painful. I spoke to my GP who agreed to remove it because of these side effects, which vanished within a week or so after he removed it. Just google *mirena coil and weight* and see what other women have written about this subject.

yes I had one, and put on loads of weight. when I went to the doctor to have it taken out she didnt deny weight gain was a side effect. couldnt lose it on my own tho afterwards, joined slimming world and lost it. since put a bit on but thats me eating too much I think.

I have two friends who have mirena coils fitted - they are both naturally very skinny women, and have not gained weight.

To be honest, your eight gain could well be because of this coil - anything that pumps hormones into the body, may well make your weight go up.

I would go back to your GP.

This is my 2nd mirena coil. The 1st one I don't have any side effects, but since I have had my 2nd in January this year, I have had nothing but trouble. I have put on nearly 2 stone since January, I'm tired all the time, my legs & ankles have swelled & ache, I have really awful spots, which I have never suffered from spots before in my life.
I'm not sure whether to put up with the side effects or get it removed. I had this due to really painful periods & was bleeding 3 weeks out of 4. So I am not sure what to do?
