I'm feeling tired and fed up and thought it would be nice to hear of any good stories where people have been kind to you for nothing in return, cos I think realising that humans are nice would cheer me up again.
My example of a nice person is when I thought I saw smoke coming from my old car's steering column, I thought it would burst in to flames. I jumped out of the car and ran to the garage opposite, they took my car and tried to find the problem all day. He brought the car back to me late afternoon and told me everything they had been doing to find the problem, and said it would be no charge. I tried to insist on paying for their time but he refused to take any money.

I alway remember when I was about 6 years old. I found a gold bracelet in a supermarket. I handed into the desk and thought that was it. They had asked for my address, as if no-one claimed it, they would post it to me after a certain amount of time.
A few weeks later, I had a letter through the post, a woman had written to me, thanking me for handing in the bracelet, as it had been the last gift her husband had given her before she died, she also put in a �5 note as thanks.
I always thought that was really nice :)

awhh... nice tales! my friend's daughter lost her purse, and it came back in the post this week. �20 was missing, but all her cards and store vouchers were still there.

I was in a Dept store cafe, the old dear in front of me was buying some lunch, but they wouldn't accept her payment by card as it was under �5. she had no cash so I paid for it. a very small gesture, but it was the best �5 I ever spent! we should all do these things more often.

There are plenty of good people in this world + plenty of (i)angels (i) too ! Remember a shop keeper letting me have something for free( he asked me what was wrong with me- on crutches for neurological condition). My friend purchased something from him, yet he was taken aback by my condition, my young age + positive spirit that he wanted me to choose something in his shop for no cost. Chose a brass ornament of a phoenix as to me that was a good symbolism that one day would recover from this mysterious condition- rise up above the ashes like a phonenix. This was around 10 years ago- am not as challenged as was then yet still unable to work, yet, it makes me smile everytime look at this brass phoenix :-)

i was querying a prescription charge with a pharmacist once (he was telling me this item was classed as a double charge item or something and i was thinking he was trying to rip me off!) anyway, after much discussion and after he showed me the book that said he was right i reluctantly agreed to take all the meds in one go. reluctant cos the prescription actually cleaned me out and payday was a week or so away. while i was waiting for him with my purse open ready to get money out, this woman customer in the chemist (the only other person there im glad to say) shoved a tenner in my purse. mightily embarrased by this show of kindness (it made me feel ashamed for haggling) the woman proceeded to tell me she used to be a drug addict but prayed for help from god and he saved her and she refused to take the money back, saying that in my own way i was asking for help and god had answered my prayer.
Sqad, the point of this thread is nice people doing kind acts for no selfish reason. Don't think that nice people are to be mistrusted. I think Nice people are reliable and predictable and NotNice people are random and scarey. So, totally opposite to your philosophy.
Perhaps you don't want to admit you are nice because you see it as a weakness. It is sometimes harder to be nice to people when they are sceptical and think you have ulterior motives for being kind to them.
