I know this is a bit late but who diagnosed the bacterial conjunctivitis? Was it your GP who in the main may not have the best equipment to inspect your eye clearly.
Do you wear contanct lenses - could there be something else wrong that isn't conjunctivitisand it may be worth seeing your optician who provides the lenses for a check up.
What is the discharge like ? if it is sticky then it is more than likely bacterial conjunctivitis and should clear with the drops in about a week. If it it is a watery discharge then it is most likely viral and the treatment is unnecessary. If there is no discharge then it is not likely to be conjunctivitis and there are many different causes of red sore eyes and some are more of a concern than others and may need a closer look at by an optician or ophthalmogist.
