Oh Angel I do feel for you. Do you like your job, is it just the people who you don't click with? I would advise looking for another job, as it doesn't sound like it's going to improve anytime soon. I'm looking elsewhere myself, it's not going great but it's keeping me motivated and easing the pain of having a job I no longer enjoy. Having something to focus and aim for & keeping busy always helps divert your mind from the things that don't seem to be going your way.

I'm stuck in an office with religious jewish girls who stick to their own community and whom I have absolutely nothing in common with either.

Often I sit all day without a single word spoken, sometimes I don't even get a 'hello' or 'goodbye'. Gave up trying to make conversation a long time ago. They barely even talk to each other. They remind me of Stepford Wives. My Uncle died in January and I was in tears in the office when I got the call saying he was hospitalised. I won't go into detail but neither one of them reacted, said anything, just acted as if nothing had happened.

Are you allowed to listen to music (headphones)? When it gets really bad I put music on, feels like time goes faster when I do that and also I seem to work more productively!

Sorry to hear you are in the same kinda boat, its not nice!!
Sorry to hear about your uncle too x

The place I work is a small company, 3 workers including me and boss. Once worker is bosses daughter other is practically treated like family. I can't just listen to music as it would seem rude and I've just basicaly been pretending for 5 years that we get along all right when really I haven't been allowing myself to be myself. I used to try conversation more but soon found can't get a word in edgeways and felt quite over beared by their chatter and opinions.

Its a drab office which doesn't help either and its full of crap which I can't clear out without asking someone, which makes it a depressing environment.

Just can't take colleague constantly talking about children pregnancy blah all the time either.

Theres nothing anyone can say or do I've just got to keep my finger out applying for jobs. It just is sooooooooooooo
depressing.
Wernt you looking into another career, how thats going?
Question Author
Not well 4get, waiting to hear about one more job but need to apply for some more - not much about. Sent cv to agency to have a look for me too.
You really need to get out and change your job as you obviously cant realise that people will talk about children etc and they are not doing it to hurt you or even know its hurting you. its not something you could even talk to them about as you cant really tell them to stop talking about their family. If we all tip toed around peoples feeling the world would be a very quiet place. Fingers crossed you get a new job offer soon. xx
me too, can I join the club?

Nothing to do at work, everyone else gone out and about in the sun and two of us sat here answering the phones etc.

Just generally narked today, don't know why. I should be happy, wedding coming up, but brother in law trying to ruin things now he has decided he hates me and he lives next door. Seems to be a big cloud hanging over everything at the moment.

Argh!

Thank you, rant much appreciated.

Hope you two feel happier soon!

It's day in day out of coming to work, not having at least one decent conversation, not being able to be myself, having to listen about children, pregnancies, sometimes even colleagues sister brings her little girl in, just got to sit here and put up with it but can't put up with it thats the trouble its so detrimental to my health and wellbeing
Question Author
yes join the club sorry you have to though x
I think a fresh start is the best option, where ever you go you will have to accept people will talk about their kids though
Question Author
Anyone else talking about their kids pregnancy etc wouldn't be so bad but she knows about my situation, she even goes so far as to tell me the stages of pregnancy and what its like to give birth.
Question Author
The more I think about it the more I realise how very vindictive this woman is
Its a toughie angel, my sisters friend went through an abortion and she has regretted it bitterly but most peoples attitude to her was "well why did you have an abortion if you didnt want to"? (these were a couple of her friends)

hopefully if you start a new job somewhere new you can start again so to speak, I hope you find something soon xx
Question Author
Yes thats what I need a fresh start!! I hope it comes to me soon too barely hanging in there. Thanks for your kind words.

:-) x
Angel, is it the 5-year itch, I've been at my place for 5 years too and feel like I've slowly been waking up and realising I have to get the hell out of here for my own sanity!

I think anywhere you go there will be people talking about family & stuff. I get all the wedding and bar mitzvah talk here (when they do talk!), as they all seem to know every other jewish family by some sort of connection - just gossip that I'm excluded from.

If I were you I'd just keep cracking on trying to get another job and keep that your main focus and don't think too much about the office crap. Perhaps aim to get in at a bigger company, where you have a more diverse range of people to talk to. You'll always have someone you don't click with, but chances are at a bigger firm with lots more people you'll be able to have a natter with more like-minded and less insensitive people. It can be claustrophobic with a small firm, particularly one that has family or close friends working together.
Question Author
Yes I definitely want a bigger firm with more people to talk to. At least I'd have more of a chance of finding at least one person who I have something in common with. Just takes so long to come about and I hate application forms and job interviews argh!

Good luck with your job search to - I hope you find something. Yes it must be a 5 year itch lol xx
