How can you get your hair to look as good as when you've stepped out of a hairdresser's? At home I use conditioner whereas they don't at my saloon but my hair still comes out nice and sleeky. I'm going to a do next month, a Sunday ,so won't be able to get to a hairdresser's and can't get on the Saturday neither as I'm travelling to the do that day.
My hair's shoulder length and I blow dry it. Any tips will be very much appreciated.

Theres a few reasons why your hair is better from the salon. a)the products used make a HUGE difference, we couldnt do our job without products. and b) the fact you are having it blowdried properly and thouroughly.
Get yourself a nice shampoo and conditioner, salon based brands Do make a massive difference, a product to put on before you dry, ie, a smoothing balm or root booster, and then a product to put on once you've finished such as a shine spray. all these things make a big difference and are worth the money.
When you dry your hair, make sure you blast it 80% dry, using a nozzle and pointing the nozzle downwards on the hair. then do your best to section the hair off and use a round brush or paddle brish to dry the hair, still with the nozzle pointing downwards. once youve done this all over blast with cold air which seals the cuticles creating shine!

Fab tips :)
I know what you mean coccinelle, I had my hair done last week and despite it being wavy and very fine and flyaway he got it into the most gorgeous bouncy sleek bob! I was just looking in the mirror openmouthed lol :)
Saying that though I can see the points above, I don't pay anywhere near the time and attention they did to my hair in blowdrying it in sections and probably don't use the best products.
My hairdresser was fab though (not been to a salon for years as my friend usually does it for me) and he showed me how to blow dry it like he did so going to buy some better brushes and different ones for different bits of hair (had it cut in a short bob layered short at the back) and see how I do :)

i agree with you jrobinson, products do make a massive difference, i use fat hair as my hair is quite thin then heat protecter, then a good shine spray, like you say without all these my hair is dull and lifeless, also i have started to use shampoo/condtioner that stops my hair from looking brassy, good if your hair is coloured!!
What are the names of these products or what brand is the best, please?
I don't think I spend enough time blow drying as I notice at the hairdresser's she does section by section and my arms can't hold the dryer that long. I'm going to blast dry it 80% as you say jrobinson then blow dry it DRY and see if it's better. Thanks for the tips everybody by the way.

the best way to blow dry it if you cant hold the dryer up for long is to get a paddle brush and section it in quite big sections. that way you are still smoothing it but its not as hard as with a round brush. or just do the top layers properly.
