Are you on any medication at the moment?

I am on atenolol and escitalpram, but have been on them a long time.

changed washing powder? shower gel?

Some sort of hayfever? There are lots of different pollens and the recent nice weather may have brought some out for the first time this year.
Question Author
No change to anything at all!

I'm baffled!
mifta.....2 things come to mind.

1) Atenelol,........even after all thise years.
2) Anxiety state.

Would suggest that you see your GP for his opinion.

In the meantime Boots E45 might help.

Yeah - I know the anxiety one will raise its head - but I am the best I've been for years - and it came on so suddenly. Thursday fine, Friday itchy. Will defo get it checked out - not sure I can cope with it much longer!!!! Not in an anxious way - LOL

Many thanks
You haven't got one of those cheap eastern sofas have you which give you skin burns??

Or new clothes? Washing powder? Shower gel? etc etc. Are you too warm? Heat rashes?
Both my daughter and I suffer with this unexplainable itching - even our doctor can't find out what it is (my daughter has had blood tests etc) The only thing that will take it away are anti-histamines. Sorry I can't be of any more help but I really do sympathise with you.
mifta.....that is an excellent answer by masma and probably applies in your case.

mifta? masma?....any relationship? LOL LOL

Just a long-shot but could I ask your age (approx) ?

It's just that since the menopause I have had a consistently itchy back with nothing visible. I have put it down to 'formication' (please note spelling!!) which is the sensation of ants crawling over/under the skin.
I discovered this is a known sensation after menopause with no real explanation. It has got a bit better so I hope it will disappear completely one day!.

Hope yours goes, it's irritating...pardon the pun!

Thanks all for your replies.

Bessie boo - Land of leather sette which I have had for 3 years (hubby did clean it last week though!)

Yoga sun - I will be 41 next month, and I did wonder if it may be pre menopausal.

I saw my GP this afternoon - and she thinks it is just 'one of those things'. Advised piriton and E45 cream. So I guess I shall be scratchy for a bit longer.

Ask your GP for some Fucidin cream.
