Thanks for coming back. You're right, I can't stop you believing in God. I don't see it as my choice that I don't believe - I cannot rationally believe that there is a God. Everything in this world came about by natural genesis and natural evolution - there was no need for any God to be involved. There are sound scientific theories for natural genesis and evolution. We know about dinosaurs because there is concrete evidence such as skeletons - how do you know about God?. Pointing to a blossoming tree is not proving God's existence, it's not even evidence of God. If God is controlling everything, he is controlling me and preventing me from knowing him - is that fair? Which God is yours? I get the impression either that you don't know your God or you are afraid that a serious discussion will stop you believing. How did you first know about your God?
merlin my god is one and only all the prophets were sent by him they all proved gods existence and all the prophet did not come out saying there is god. just to make people come on there side. no way man,
they did not want to rule the world they were merely pointing out the factst. they were blessed with powers from god they could have made for them paradise in this world but they didnt dont this saying something think, its hard for anyone to belive this ;
we were not born in those days its hard for us but their prayers for us has kept the fact going i hope you can understand my point of view. there is only one god
Alawibaz
It was easier to believe the prophets in those days because the masses were more ignorant of the world around them and their own origins. It was easier for Moses to convince the Israelites than it would be for him to convince us today. It is harder for us to believe because we are better informed and our reason tells us that these things just cannot be - it just doesn't add up. Every description of God that I have come across - every single one - has had contradictions within itself. Where does your religion describe your God?
And how did the prophets 'prove' God's existence?
merlin first of all let me tell you im a muslim and i believe in one god allah my prophet is muhammed peace be up on him
all the prophets were sent on earth with one message and that was to worship one god
moses was gifted by god with miraculous powers infact all the prophet had powers even jesus peace be upon them
no normal human can bring one back to life but you might say yes we can by resustitation ect but im not talking about modern versions or equipment as in the olden days they didnt have any of that stuff so you explain how the prophets bought back people back to life and also performed miracles to cure dieases when they didnt have any knowledge of medical science
is not this a proof enough for you
Alawibaz
Hi
Apart from what modern medicine can achieve (and I think it goes too far sometimes), I agree that resurrection is impossible. Before we had the resuscitation equipment and methods that we have now, I mean a couple of centuries ago, if someone who seemed to be dead appeared to have been brought back to life, then he obviously wasnt dead. I agree with you on that.
I cant explain how anyone brought anyone else back to life and I cant explain how anyone performed miracles and, whats more, I seriously doubt whether anyone ever did any of those things. I say doubt because, with curing disease, its not impossible for someone with no modern medical knowledge to do so, and with miracles, it depends on what you mean by the word. And to say A prophet brought a dead man back to life, or to say A prophet performed a miracle is not proof that those things happened, so, no, its not proof enough for me.
I could say that I saw a man who was dead for five days brought back to life by another man who just spoke over him, but that would not be proof for you that it happened, would it?
merlin i can understand what you mean about a person dying for five days and then bought back to life it would be hard for me to believe becouse i wasnt there to witness it with my own eye but no man can die for that long and come back alive except with the work and miracle from god.
have you ever read the quran you can buy one with english translation or try the library hopefully that will help you with some answers, if not the quran, then there are books on all sorts of questions and answers.
you seem to doubt a lot of things thats sent from god do you believe the bible the torah gospel and all the scripture ? do you believe in god from your heart do you ever wonder where you come from and why you are here? what purpose are you here for how would you explain a bird flying in the air and how can you explain the whole of mankind being the same with eyes nose ears lips but still look so different
if you dont believe in god how do you explain these things?
No man who is dead can be brought back to life, and no, I have not read the quran.
I very seriously doubt everything that is sent from God simply because I do not accept that God exists at all. Not the God of the Bible, the Torah nor the God of any scripture.
I know where I came from and I know why I'm here. I came from a series of evolutionary developments and that is also why I am here. There is no designed purpose for which we were placed on this earth. Any purpose we find in our lives is of our own making.
A bird flying in the air is here as a result of the same process that led to all of us and every animal to being here. The whole of mankind does not actually look the same, but trhe similarities between each member of the human race are there because we are members of the same species - just as there are similarities between members of other species on the planet.
These things are explained by the theory of evolution.
melin the universal is full of things that we have no knowledge of, that we simply cannot know and that he is far above and beyond our sphere of understanding and experiance even the greatest brain in the world can never fully understand him
if god exists, he must have revealed something about himself for people to study and understand. he must have left some kind of "rule of life" for people to follow thats where all the prophets came in
otherwise, if there is no eternity to worry about, then i might as well be like you and enjoy doing what i like and forget worrying and if there is no one watching, what does it matter what i do
but to me god is everwatchful over all of us im sure at the back of youre mind you know hes there but too stubborn to admit it
merlin
one of the most important of gods statement is that "truth stands out clearly from error if a thing is true, it does not matter what nonsence people talk about it -it will in the begginnig or the end be self-evident or delibratly choose to ignore it .
melin i can not force you to do believe in god but would you not consider just finding more information about the religion
you say about the evolution well i belief that evolution has come from some where you need to think very deep to understand human beings are like ants, running around in the garden .busy little things, so occupied with their chores and duties completly unaware that i exist i could pick one up and it still would not be able to see me i am a creature far too vast and i in habit a completely diffrent universe from his.
we are like ants too running around hither and thither, completely unaware of the all seeingness of the eternal watcher, until the moment he chooses to stop us in our tracks, and make us see unlike the ants we can choose to seek him out
Yes, the universe contains things that we don't know about. Some things are simply so far away that it is impossible for us to know about them or even whether they are there.
Yes, the way that God is described by most believers, he probably cannot be completely knowable: on one level, the deity is infinitely and absolutely whatever he is and our minds are limited. On another level, if you could totally know your God, there would be no need for faith and no need for religion.
And then you say if god exists, he must have revealed. this says to me that you do not have 100% confidence that your God exists. You should have said God revealed something
If God exists, he has revealed very little about himself that we can all accept. Even the God of Abraham has revealed at least three versions of himself which one are we to believe? Which prophets are we to believe? How am I to decide which of the Abrahamic religions is right?
Because there is no eternity to worry about, we must live our lives as best we can before we die. I believe that the more a person does for the benefit of others, the greater meaning his life will have had. Just because I dont believe in God and all that that entails, it doesnt mean that I am an evil hedonistic self-centred sadist. The faithful, of whatever religion, do not have a monopoly on being good.
And far from being too stubborn to admit that I know at the back of my mind that there is a God, I can assure you that I have given myself and others ample opportunity to show me that there could be a God (as they describe him) but they have been unable to do so. Whenever I ask What is your understanding of the nature of your God, people who profess to have a faith usually either go way, avoid the question or respond with a description that cannot be true. If you dont know what it is that you believe in, how can you expect anyone else to believe in it?
