Hi Crano I suffer with this too, I've found that cutting out caffeine, cutting back on wheat, gluten and lactose foods/drinks, and high fat foods has helped as well as increasing my fruit/veg intake, drinking plenty of water and exercising. I also use Fybogel when it gets really bad even on the above diet and it worked really well for me, but not as a dependent long term thing.
Oh and if you have a stressful life style, chill out!
You could try doing the Carol Vorderman 28 day detox. This stops wheat, dairy, meat and salt, sugar, and alcohol. Then you can see if that helps you. Then, re-introduce each food type at a time, and see which one upsets your bowel. Then you have your answer!! Dairy is usually the prime one.

Sorry to hear that Crano. It's always best to discuss this with the experts but there are alot of websites with stacks of info on IBS. There's also a support group where you can talk to people suffering from the same thing.

Generally speaking, it's best to avoid food high in fat, coffee, red meat and alcohol! Good luck.

..brilliant posts above. Don't get down about it, crano, as you would not believe how common this is. I have it too, and agree wholeheartedly with natalie_1982. Fybogel is really good when the going gets tough, but not every day or anything.  And drink loads of water!

Thank you all so much. Ive had this for about ten years and its getting worse.I'm usually crippled with the pain but all my doctot told me was to eat Bland food and stay away from fizzy drinks. Thanks again, i really appreciate it. Its the first time i have found out there are certain foods that i should avoid
Wow, there are a lot of AB girls with this, including myself!   I avoid dairy foods and red meat, which really give me problems.  Pastry is another culprit.  Drinking loads of water really helps.  Stress is a killer!

Hi crano, I am yet another sufferer! I find Fybogel & plenty of water helps to keep it at bay. If it gets really bad, then I take the Buscopan which is prescribed for me. Best ask your GP or Nurse for advice.

P.S. As FP says - avoid stress - as it definitely does not help at all.

Crossed in the post again FP!

Hi there everyone

I also suffer from this and the last couple of days have been really bad so I am going to try that detox thing. The worst thing for me is that the foods that I seem fine with suddenly can make me ill, so that makes the psychological stress take its toll.

MadlySane - before you go on a detox diet, I would highly recommend you go & visit your GP. I'm sure he/she will be able to prescribe something to alleviate it.
my mum was diagnosed with that but after she tried to find out herself what was really wrong like cutting out specific foods, she found out she was lactose intolerat. try cutting out random foods, ie. gluten (wheat), Lactose, basically everything that you think you might be allergic to. are you worse after eating anything specifc? keep a diary.
When ever I get the familiar cramping feeling at the start of an attack, I take two peppermint oil capsules (healthshops) this usually stops it altogether, or at the very least lessens the pain, try it, its totally herbal, what have you got to lose, and its a lot less effort than food avoidance and detoxing!
Also, although it didn't really make a lot of difference to me I've heard a lot of people say that by drinking the Actimel bottles once a day help. Part of the problem, without being too graphic, is my tummy doesn't aborb a lot of water so anything in my tummy and intestines doesn't break down very well and water goes straight through without being absorbed. Apparently, the little bottles help produce 'good' bacteria that help aid water absorption, as does Omega 3 capsules.
I too suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Ive had it for the last 10 years and it irritates the sh$t out of me!
I use pepermint oil capsules and buscopan (which is available to purchase at the chemists). don't have a problem with dairy, its the stress that does it. I also find that actimel helps if I am going through a bad patch
woofgang - I mentioned above that when my IBS is playing havoc, I take prescribed Buscopan, but diddn't realise you can now buy it over the counter - thanks.
*didn't

dairy free, gluton free, yeast free, No sugar.Tons of fruit and veg, lots of water and suitable vits and mins including probiotics.  I no longer have it.
