My wife is said to have diverticulitis but has discovered that it seems only to be brought on by taking these bacteria drinks such as Actimol. Several experimental periods of staying off them, then trying again always bring back the painful problems. She has decided to stay of all together.

Could it be that the extra bacteria has a detrimental effect.

Grateful for any advices.

I know of no recent studies showing deleterious affects from these bacteria drinks, but clearly your wife has shown that for her, they cause problems.
The answer is to steer clear of them as the beneficial affects of such drinks are tenouos at best..........in my opinion.
Sp "tenuous"......sorry.
You could be right! My wife also suffers from Diverticulitis and was diagnosed with that endoscope they insert internally. She also suffers occasional pains down below and the recent episode has occuurred after having a few Actimol type drinks. We shall be keeping an eye out for this in future.
My uncle uncle is recovering from surgery due to this disease and used to take those drinks regularly.

Granted, he drank whisky and rum almost daily too! He was in the merchant navy and this condition is quite rife amongst his "cronies".
