Nicotine is an appetitie suppressor, so when you quit, not only do you want to do something with your hands (eg picking at food), but you feel more hungry. I started to keep a note of all that I ate and drank, and it showed me that I was snacking a lot more than I used to (I hadn't realised quite how much!). It helped me identify where I needed to resist temptations and the weight stopped going on.
Also, it is possible the weight gain is caused my a medical issue and it would be prudent to see a doctor and get the the other possible causes checked out.
Check the qualtiy of the food you are eating as well as the quantity.Smoking depletes your body of so many minerals, and now your body will be looking to get them replaced.Try to make sure you eat some form of raw veg every day if you can and take a vit.C supplement. Also sesame seeds are meant to be fab for people who have given up smoking. And don't forget lots of water.
