You will soon see some improvement, but it will take a year for the nail to grow completely out to a new healthy nail. Just watch out for the next toe along in case it migrates, then you would have to treat the two. It does work well, but you have to be careful to follow the instructions properly, and after all it's only once a week, so it's best to choose a time that you will remember. I decided on Saturday morning, as that was easy to remember.
I would go to the doctors. My grandson had a bad toe and left it for some time. When he eventually went to the doctors they took half the nail off. He is still having problems and it looks like the whole nail will have to come off.
Don't mean to scare you but I wouldn't try home remedies.
See the doctor.

See the doctor, because it sounds like more than just a fungal infection, I had a fungal infection last year. The doctor said it was quite serious as they go and prescribed Terbinafine tablets rather than anything topical. What I didn't get was any pain - just very thick, brittle toenails.
A side effect of Terbinafin is that can cause some loss of appetite - not a problem in my case.

look on the people's pharmacy .. i have toe nail fungus and what has improved it for me is white vinegar and water 50/50 soak for approx 30 min every day to start with, also listerene and vicks vapour rub . i tried the latter two with limited success. i think it's trial and error, but these appear to be better than prescribed treatments. good luck with it. forgot to mention the vinegar soak can be used more than once
