Medical record details on a deceased relative

I need to find out some medical details about my mother who passed away 4 years ago (approx). She suffered anaphalactic shock after a general anaesthetic . I am pregnant and the consultant I am under is pressing me for the type of anaesthetic that was used.

How easily can I obtain this information, or can my hospital do it on my behalf?

The records of your mother should be kept for a period of time...6yrs I think........at the hospital at which she was treated.

The PA of the doctor/consultant might be able to get hold of the notes for you and tell you what was used or have the clinician dictate a letter for you but to be honest, if someone asked me that I'd still refer it to my Consultants and make you come down and prove you're related... We have to be quite careful these days because of the data protection/freedom of information/patient confidentiality stuff.

Could you not maybe ask your GP to contact your mothers GP and see if the information can be obtained that way?
