i bought concert tickets about 2 months ago for me and my hubby and another couple. the couple gave us the money for the tickets but i didnt hand over the tickets as we would be travelling together to the venue. the couple are now leaving the country unexpectedly in sept and the concert is in october. no one else i know wants to go instead. so what do i do, am i expected to give the money back and try and flog the tickets for them or should i just give them the tickets as after all they have paid for them and suggest that maybe they can sell them on ebay etc. i feel like i should be giving the money back for some reason but its not our fault they are leaving. what would you do?

id give them their tickets to sort the problem out themeselves.
you initially bought the tickets in good faith that youd all be going to the concert together and now theyve a change of plan...
its not your responsibility to get their money back for them.
so hand em over and hope they manage to sell em!
you can always say youll keep your eyes and ears open in hope of finding a buyer for them cant you, to help them out.
They paid you for the tickets, you owe them the tickets. What they decide to do with them is their concern, not yours. How can you be expected to give them back any money when, as you say, none of this is your doing?

How is this any different than if they had purchased and taken possession of their own tickets instead of utilizing the convenience of having you do it for them? Or, if you had delivered the tickets to them right away instead of holding them? In these last two cases there would seem to be no possibility of arguing that you somehow owe them a refund.
Keep the money and let the other couple do the worrying. If they ask then give them the two tickets that are useless to them. If they don't ask you have the money and two useless tickets.

I have a better idea:
Keep the tickets and send the money to:
sqad.
c/o AB and I will give it to my favourite charity..................ME
Sit and talk to them about it what they would like to do x
I agree with others here.
They paid for the tickets knowing full well when the concert was,if they are now leaving the country before the concert that is their resposibility, not yours.
IF you had given them the tickets as soon as you had received them what would they be doing now,not asking YOU for the money back certainly.
Give/send them the tickets and let them get on with it,it's up to them then to take what course of action they decide.
