I am waiting for carpal tunnel release surgery and I wondered if you have ever performed this?

Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

BTW, my doc refers to the surgeon as a plastic surgeon. I always thought of plastic surgery as a cosmetic procedure. Am I barking up the wrong tree? (Or am I just barking?)

No. I han't done a carpal tunnel decompression.

They are eithe done by Orthopaedic surgeons or Plastic Surgeons..............my preference?...Plastic surgeons.

I can't add anything further chappie, but there will be plenty of people on this thread who have had the proceedure done.

Yes, One of my sisters had the procedure done a few months ago.................. very simple procedure............they numb the area and it takes about 20/25 minutes to perform.

She was admitted into hospital at 10.00......prepped at 11.00am............out by 1.15pm allowed home...................see, simple.....so dont worry about it!

She did have a follow up consult, as it was thought a stitch was left in, when she had her stitches out a few days later, but was given some therapy and now seems all ok, but that was ONLY individual to my sister's case........not commonplace.

I know how nerve-wracking it can be, waiting to go into hospital. Not too long ago, I was waiting to go for a bladder op. and they had a cancellation which I turned down. It was on a Friday 13th!

And since then I`ve managed to avoid the op by persevering with some exercises, which worked.

Yogi has given you a good insight and the only thing that I can add is that your can request IV sedation whilst the operation is performed.

As yogi said, it will be done under regional local anaesthesia.

Hi, I have had it done.

Saw the doctor one week and had the operation a week later. They just get you to change into a gown, then you go into the theatre. It is only a local anaesthesia., the nurse talked to me all the time. Before I knew it the op was over, and I was taken to a rest cubicle and given tea and biscuits.

Then home I went, it nothing to worry about. Mind you I was lucky because my doctor sent me to a private clinic.

I am sure you will be fine.

I had a Carpal Tunnel Decompression in 2000 (aged 23).

Best thing I ever had done. I had mine done under General Anasthetic. Out of hospital by lunchtime.

I know it's classed as a minor op .... but the thought of it scares the **** outta me!

chappie...about the sedation....I had both hips replaced (at different times) by a mate of mine under spinal anesthesia.
The anesthetist (Colin) another mate of mine asked me what type of music did I want playing whilst the operation was being performed.

I looked him straight in the eyes for about 10secs, grabbed him by the lapels, dragging his nose to about one inch of my nose and said,

"Colin, let's understand each other from the start. I don't want to hear ANYTHING in the theatre"

I was given hypnoval and it was fantastic.

It scared the **** outta me, too. Especially when the nurse drew a big orange arrow pointing down to my right wrist... (probs so they didn't do the wrong one ! )

I got mine done 2-3 weeks after my consultation.

Yes it was quick, I was very lucky. I got my hand back to normal within 4-5 weeks, so not too bad.

Good one yogi, the nurse held my hand all the way through. We had a good chat about favourite tv programmes and the like. The doctor also had some music on in the background (can't remember what.)

It was a very relaxed atmosphere.

Hey buddies, sorry for the loooooooooooooooooong delay in replying to this! To be honest, I have just come across it while trying to find the post where Sqad had the fall out with another ABer. (Couldn't find it, BTW - and I was only looking cos I am a nosey bu88er).

Anyhoo, I saw a consultant who recommended I wear a splint for 3 months and then go back to him to see how I am doing. I go back to him on 22nd December. He said he is reluctant to perform an op due to my other medical probs at the moment (too boring to trouble you with).
