A close Wet Shave
5 Answers
Can someone please tell me the best way to get a close wet shave. I have followed all the suggestions - shaving with the grain, shave twice, shave 2nd time across the grain but this is not close at all and going against the grain just hurts. I have started to use a raver after years of electric shaving as this, so I thought, wasn't that close but after using a wet razor this is worse. I also started to use the razor to try and stop ingrowing hairs. Please help.

but also the lube
I've spent 40 years looking for "the one"
"real" loose blades are excellent ... but lethal
my current fave is Gillette fusion
but my face has changed over the years - as has the technology.
straight soap and a brush is ok - but the absolute best shave in my book is shaving oil - very slick - but hell cleaning the blade after

Stop trying to shave so close
If you're anything like me shaving really close, as you're trying to do causes a lot more skin trouble.
I don't know if it's skin growing over the hair follicles or what but shaving across the grain always gives me ingrowing hairs and acne.
A slight beard is more attractive than a face full of acne!
Totally ignore all that rot on gilette adverts - have the exorbitant cost of the razors goes on paying sports stars to endorse them.
Gillette is now in the ridiculous situation of advertising against their own products to get you to part with huge amounts of money to shave with 27 blades or whatever!
Personally I use Tesco's own 3 blade razors they cost about 1/3 of Gilettes and I think they're better.
I change the blade each week, seems about right for me
I also tend to use Gel rather than foam.
However I do have quite a coarse beard that grows fast and offers quite a bit of resistance to a razor. Your experience may differ if you've a light beard
