i was wondering how you guys cope with jehovah witnesses visiting your homes..its get some in month december...thats what mullein calls it..i have had a letter asking them not to call sent and yet the arrogant lot still come, if you dont answer the door they make a note to revisit they are to arrogant to believe you dont want to know..and as they are waiting on doorsteps up and down the road you can see them having a good nosey look through peoples windows..i have even overheard 2 of them discussing an antique dolls house they saw in someones home and that to me is information for burglars,,apart from shooting them what would you do? they are so bad here they even go around the houses on xmas day....mullein

I know what you mean though, and this is a good thread.  I agree that people should be stopped from door to door visiting, if children are discouraged at Halloween for visiting elderly neighbourhoods, etc and salesmen and free newspapers are discouraged through signs in windows and adhered to, why JW's think they are any different.  I'm certain there are more constructive ways they could go about their business.

interestingly a lot of the JW's (especially the younger ones) get fed the crap from the church and just repeat it over and over, they aren't taught to have constructive debate about it.  So if you can be bothered to read the next copy of the watchtower then getting them into a heated discussion about things often gets rid of them tout suite.  I did this after reading in the Watchtower that apparently natural disasters are getting more and more common (saying it is a sign the end of the world is coming), I asked them how exactly this had been determined, what statistics they could cite to prove this.  they stammered a bit and repeated the same old tosh, i kept on at them asking them to explain it all and they really didn't have a clue.  I felt a tiny bit bad - especially as they were pretty young and they HAVE to go out round the houses to become a proper JW.  anyway it was fun at the time but didn't stop them coing back.

on a lighter note - my friend lives right next door to a Kingdom Hall in berkshire and in 20 years they have never once been bothered by them! so perhaps that is the solution!

I usually say "I am so sorry i am pagan" before starting to give a JW type lecture on how Mother Nature is the true God and how they are abandoning their roots... I am infact christian, but telling to go away politely rarely works. I have found the above method does.

Get them onto the subject of the dinosaurs, stuff�s them good and proper and makes a laughing stock of them. I find shame more fun than abuse!!

I am not a JW. I don't follow any religion.  But I have to come back against the people who have said rude things about the JWs. There are good and bad people in any society.

Some of the nicest people I have worked with have been JWs, and have never discussed their religion in the workplace unless a colleague asked them a direct question. Other JWs I've worked with have got everyone's back up with their pious attitude and the fact that they never sign communal birthday cards but are quite happy to eat birthday cake. Small things like that make a difference in an office environment!

Saying all JWs are bad is just as wrong as judging people on their skin colour.

FYI JW is not officially classed as a "cult", like, say, the Scientologists (who, by the way are NOT the same as the Christian Scientists).  Cults are exclusive and are generally defined by the lack of interaction with the rest of society and the isolation of new members. The JWs do not isolate themselves from society, they are always actively prosyletising, trying to increase their numbers.

If you really don't want JWs to call, put a notice up on the door or the gate telling them they are not welcome, or, just don't open the door to them.

There are a right crafty pair who visit my house. One morning at about 7.30 I was getting ready for work and the doorbell rang (twice) so I thought it must be urgent. I went to the door and two women stood there smiling at me. I'm a very polite person and said hello and smiled back, they then started going on about god and all that and asked my name, I know I shouldn't have done it but I told them my name!!!! Stupid me!!!! anyway I told them I was really busy and had to get ready for work and closed the front door. I went into the lounge and they were looking in the window!! Then one of them posted some of their literature through my door and they went.
When I wnet out to go to work I noticed they were stood on the corner of my road watching me!!! That night I read the literature and realised it really is a load of rubbish and my first thoughts were 'this is like a cult'
The next morning (Saturday) my doorbell rang at 8am. I went to the door and they were both there again!! 'Hello, did you have chance to read the literature?' I said yes, but it really isn't for me and I gave it back to them. They stood there preaching all this rubbish to me for about 10 minutes and I started to get irate. In the end I could not get rid of them so I shut the door and went in they were lurking at the end of my front garden for ages.
I didn't hear fom them again for about a week, then I returned home from work one day and saw them stood at my front door, so I stayed in my car so they didn't see me. Straight away one of them spotted my car at the roadside and they both came over and started preaching at me again. I just ignored them and walked into my house (which is so unlike me) I felt like because I had been polite in the first instance and not told them to f**k off (like I presume most people do) they felt they had a god given right to harras me. This was 6 months ago, and they still come calling at my house every few weeks, i just don't answer the door now.

ursula...i dont think i have personally said they are all bad..i just find them extremelly arrogant..as i shall be moving to another area sometime in the near future if i have the same problem as i have had here i shall take a court injuction out to bar them access to my property..as i have my own beliefs and i am not ignorant i have looked into their religion as i have others..as i am extremelly inquisitive,,and i am not in the slightest interested..and the main thing i have to say is if i tell them i have no wish for them to call ..then in a space of 12 weeks i am not about to change my mind ..its actually harrassment..and also arrogance that they think they know whats best for me the jw friend i know lives semi rural and at the moment i live in a city and the attitude difference between the ones from rural or semi rural to the city is quite something ..maybe when i move the problem will go as i shall tell them where i move to i dont wish a visit at all,,they must be over zealouse here or looking for a ticket to the kingdom   mullein

one very final afterthought..as i have friends that are witnesses in another area and they dont preach to me as they would be told to shut up..they are actually quite disgusted at the behaviour of the ones here..well days to do are getting few thank goodness..also on one occasion when i was visited 2 women stood at my door with their kids running all over my lawn and they also trampled flowers ..i had no intention of answering the door but i had to..so i told them to go home and teach the kids some manners...and if i worked in ursulas office and they didnt sign a birthday card but ate the cake believe me i would make an issue out of it and tell them to put the cake back as they dont celebrate birthdays so are not entitled to cake..hopefully when i move the jw in my new abode will have brains that register dont visit...as ursula said some give others a bad name and that applys to a lot of groups races etc....thanks everyone   mullein
