Sacro iliac joints
8 Answers
I saw my rhumatologist yesterday and she said that my x-rays had shown up something on my sacro-iliac joints and she wants me to go for an MRI.
Has anyone any idea what could have shown up on the x-ray and they could be looking for on the MRI?

That's what I'm afraid of as they think my arthritis might be related to inflammatory bowel and it would all tie in (or I'm just randomly unlucky lol :)).
Am going to have a chat with my osteopath if I can get an appointment this week as in a lot of pain at the moment.
My chest/ribcage has flared up but the anti-inflammtory drugs I have to help my joints and tummy don't seem to be helping that or my back.
Thanks for your help :) x

I had problems with my sacroilliac joints when I was pregnant and still get stiffness in one hip - youngest is now 8. I have never gone back to the doctor with it though, so i am not sure if this is actually what causes the problem. Do you have kids, did you have problems with hip pain when pregnant?
Thanks all :) We are aren't we Lottie, crap isn't it!
Thanks Sqad, I don't want to jump the gun, I guess if I had an idea what it was I could do more to try and help to relief the pain and minimise any damage.
Hi Annie, my rhymatologist did ask me if I had ever had kids as it can cause problems with those joints so may be worth checking out.
I've got an appointment with osteo later so will see what he thinks.

Hi Jenna!
Well I am like you, in that I have IBD and problems with inflamed joints. I haven't been able to walk for the whole summer (5 weeks) and only a steroid injection into my ankle has helped a little bit, but I still can't put weight on my foot.
I'm not sure what they mean when they say something has shown up, but it could be inflammation. This shows up as a dark shadow on MRI scan, and infers that the joints are being attacked by your immune system. I was given sulfasalazine but it gave me bad stomach cramps so I stopped taking it. Not a day goes by without one or more of my joints giving way and stopping me from walking. It sucks, doesn't it? If you have IBD the chances are (25%?) you will get some sort of joint pain, which is caused by inflammation, resulting in a kind of arthritis, which is not the normal type caused by old age/wear and tear.
I have found that a steroid injection into my facet joints (6, under x-ray) has really really helped. My Doc also suggested a steroid injection into the bum (muscle) so that it releases the steroid slowly into your whole system. It's not ideal, but it really does help with out of control inflammation. x
