Lighter Life - seeking feedback

I am considerably overweight and having tried every diet under the sun and tragically failed, I had almost given up, thinking I was to remain a size 16 forever.
Then I read an article on this new plan called Lighter Life and it sounded ideal for me, chuck everything out and only eat/drink the items they provide you with. By coincidence I have bumped into 2 ex-colleagues over the last week who have both lost a lot of weight following Lighter Life. One losing 4 stone in 4 months (Jan-Apr) and have kept the weight off.
Has anyone tried this programme or know someone that has, whether it be a success or not, I'd like to hear any feedback you ABers may have :-)

Mmmm! Thought as much, not exactly ideal for the everyday person. It seems you and I W31 will have to wait for the next "Fab Diet" & can I say W31 size 16 is quite respectable.

I like you was a bit of a bloater too :-) it got me down but i so loved my food, not the sweet things, i wasand still am a savory nut. I peaked at 21stone and some change. Then i was told the simple truth about weight loss "you can eat what ever calorie intake you want as long as your willing to burn those calories!". Now i was not very fit, i was far too big to do much but i set my self a goal of doing some thing every day, a goal if you like. I remember day 1 was walk 3 miles, lol i managed a mile. Still i kept going and change my goal when i achieved it. Eventually when i felt confident enough i joined a gym. As i was getting fitted i also started looking at what i was eating too.....i still eat pretty much what i like but am now alot fitter, working out 5 times a week and enjoying it too and whats best i'm now down to 14 stone. It took 8 years so its not a quick fix but it works you just have to take that first step......hope this helps
Cut out alcohol and sugary snacks/drinks. Ensure you drink plenty of water and eat fruit as a dessert. These will stave off hunger pains between meals. Try not to eat too much in the evening.
i` went on the lighterLife diet a couple of years ago and although i lost weight it was the most boring diet I've ever been on! I couldn't stick it for the 90 days, and found trying to drink 4 litres of water a day too much. My friend tried it, she has no major health issues (apart from wanting to lose weight) and the powdered soup and drinks made her physically sick, so she didn't last long on it either. I believe that there are healthier and less drastic diets out there but it's really eat less, exercise more that is going to work in the long run. Also size 16 doesn't sound very overweight to me!. Good luck with whatever you decide to do dietwise.
I'm sure I read somewhere that size 16 is the UK women's average? how does this make you 'considerably overweight? I'm sure you aren't really.
If you have the willpower to not eat, then surely you have the willpower to eat properly and start doing some exercise.
The liquid diet can lead to all sorts of health problems eg gall bladder and muscle weakness.
And it really can't be a long term solution can it?
Most of these new fad diets just line the pockets of those who devise them.
As Oggy says, there's really only one way to shift weight and maintain a goal. That's to eat sensibly, cut out much of the sugary and fatty foods - and then exercise away the calories which you've consumed. Pilates and yoga can also help whilst you're doing this - but I read that a size 16 is the average size of women in the UK, so unless you're very short in height, or your BNI shows that you're generally overweight, I wouldn't bother about it too much.
I know someone who was on this (actually 2 people, but I haven't seen the other for ages) and they did lose a lot of weight. Snag was, if they came of it, the weight went on again, and they were paying a fortune for what was basically sustenance rations. I'd stay well away - just eat more sensibly, less prepared food, etc. It takes time but you lose it.
As I understand it-it is a liquid diet-which in itself is not the way to go. At some point you need to go back to 'normal' eating..and you have not actually retrained yourself to eat sensibly. it is better to use one of the more traditional weight-loss plans such as Weightwatchers or SlimmingWorld. Their diets provde healthy eating guidelines...so you never really crave what is bad for you.

Thanks everyone for your comments, lots of different opinions and circumstances to consider! My motivation for losing weight (apart from wanting to look good) is that I was in an accident last year and have a trapped nerve at the top of my spine. This continues to cause me a lot of pain and I saw the doctor who said I will continue to have this pain if I remain overweight. My BMI is 34 (which puts me in the xxx caegory) and I weigh 13st 8lbs. The average weight for my height is 10st 7lbs, so I need to lose 3 stone.
I am going to a Lighter Life information session on Thursday so I'll see how I feel after that and let you all know.

do you drink alcohol? if so how often? how much? what type?
do you exercise often?
are you active on a daily basis? whats your work like - if you work?
alot of overweight people dont eat much but eat wrong, and guzzule alcohol down like its going out of fashion...im not stating you do,
just give me an idea of what im working with

People in Far East have got good balanced weight....their staple diet is rice, fish & fruit - with spices.

Yes I do drink alcohol, not every night though! I don't drink wine but I mainly like vodka tonic / vodka cranberry if I'm having a drink.
The only real exercise I do is walk and that's confined to the weekends due to my work. I have some lightweights and a fitball which I use sometimes at home.
I work in advertising so spend a lot of time on the road and presenting campaigns to prospective clients, so lots of corporate lunches, snacks on the go etc.... I work long hours so by the time I get home, and as I live alone, I more often than not skip dinner, have a couple of drinks and collapse into bed!
I know a lot of people use the excuse of "I don't have time to exercise" and I often feel I don't but I'm not sure of the type of exercising I should be doing to gain the most benefit.
Another reason I am so determined to lose weight this time is that I have very large breasts. I have had a consultation at a private hopsital about having them reduced, he was really nice but advised me not to go ahead until I was happy with my own body shape as it would be a waste of money. I would love to be able to take up running, one of my friends started running last year and is now preparing for her 3rd half-marathon but my breast size restricts this as it just hurts too much and I have spent so much money on sports bra's, all to no avail.
Any advice you could provide would be really appreciated :-)
I see it seems your work life is very demanding, mine is too, im at work now but it seems you are constantley in a rush which obviously you cannot help, if you do get home late its not wise to eat big meals but I dont think dirnks are the anwser to,
As a man I can be serious and say the breasts issue is not a bad thing but Im sure the larger the more uncomfortable we are so lucky as men, no breasts, no periods, no babies why do we complain, anyway back to your topic I know time can be a major factor in exercise its not something you do for 10mins a day you need 30mins exercise 3-5 times a week that means cardio - jogging, swimming, rowing, something high impact you need to sweat alot to shift the weight,

alot of it depends of metabolism, and everyones body is different
hope this helps (probably doesnt) sorry if it didnt i can only suggest skip the snacking, dont drink to late, find a way to fit in some high impact exercise even if it means buying a treadmill and keeping it at home (if possible) you can jog when you get in doors from work even if its 30mins walking/jogging/sprinting it will help

The exercise you need has to be constant - a few times per week. Swimming and brisk walking are good, but if you feel that your weight's affected your health in any way, have a word with your doctor first, because if the exercise is too strenuous to begin with, you can do yourself mor harm than good. Also, cycling's brilliant for your legs. After having my children, my thighs went a bit floppy, and I hated them. Within 6 weeks, I lost it all again, and I literally can't pinch an inch - or even half an inch - so best of luck. You can do it!
phuk all the posy exercise....dig the garden or get an allotment - grow healthy foods.
