Every year at this time I get a kind of reaction to something. It's like little spots which seem to bubble up from under my skin near my mouth. It's isn't always at the same place but always below my bottom lip. It gets quite red, can sometimes itch and looks awful. I've found by rubbing a bit of zinc and magnesium cream in morning and night helps but it takes a good 2 to 3 weeks to disappear. The only change in diet this week is orange juice and clementines to boost my vitamin C levels - do you think this could be the cause? Saying this, I continue the orange juice and clementines all winter but this only lasts like I say 2 - 3 weeks. This has been happening for years (first time was 20 years ago) but occasionally there'll be a winter I don't get it.
Could anybody have an idea what's causing it?

sounds a bit like herpes to me.
try some zorvirax
Impetigo contagiosa................Google this and see if it is appropriate.

No, it isn't Impetigo contagiosa but could be a kind of herpes as it tingles. I always thought that cold sores came up on the lips, not below them though. Do you think I could use Blistex Relief cream instead of zorvirax until Monday and would this be better than the zinc and copper cream I tend to use?
Sorry coccinelle, have only just picked this up, yes by all means use blistex until Monday. Zorvirax is best used when you first develop the tingling sensation. It sounds even more like herpes to me now. It can develop anywhere around and in the mouth. If really sore & in mouth 'adcortyl in orabase' is very good for ulcers etc. both these products can now be bought over the counter.

Thank you grannydi, I'll use that until I can get to a chemist. I was also at the dentist this week and wonder if something triggered it off there.
Dentist nearly always triggers cold sore for me esp if he leans on my lip or pinches it. Could be stress but I don't think so.

You might be right naomi about pressing on it. I had to have a tooth x-ray and it was very uncomfortable and on the same side of the mouth as this reaction.
OW !! Coccinelle I have a BIG FAT cold sore come up just under my bottom lip!!. Serves me right for talking about them. Last night it gave me pain all the way up the side of myface into my head. Off to bed now because I am too ugly to look at and I am miserable :o(. ( Yes i am using acyclovir but didn't recognise the itch for what it was until it blistered )
