was at doctors this morning and I have fluid behind my middle ear and am taking Benylin mucus relief - which says for mucus on the chest - how will this work for fluid in my ear ?

Afternoon Peri - how did he know you had fluid in the middle ear ? I didn't think their instruments could see that far in.

How is your son? I noticed today you posted an item last week about depression in a young adult - is he working at the moment? Does he have a good circle of mates? I think sport would be a good activity for him to get into, even if its just kicking the ball around in the local park with some mates. I think late teens, early 20's is a funny age - my son Glen never seems to know what he wants.

Sorry to hear about your ear trouble...........If doctor checked you out, he/she must have prescibed you the Benylin, yes?

How that works in a fluid problem in the ear, i really dont know, but i would have thought if it was an infection he/she would have prescribed you a 5-7 day course of ammoxycillin type anti-biotic to clear infection, if that is what it is, and not ruled out ear wax syringing,if build up of that detected, but loosening it first with olive oil etc.

Did the doctor rule out infection or that you have excess ear wax causing the problem?

I'm sure that some good peeps with medical background will come on and be able to help you, hopefully, such as Sqad etc, so best of luck, my lovely. x

Yep for boys that age is difficult - its so complicated with him but i live in hope and am looking for any support I can for him - fingers crossed. He had great friends but moved on from them to a not so great group at the beginning of this year but seems to be moving back- he needs to see what other people who know him see but he doesnt I telling him wont help so I am constantly on the lookout for him. He hasnt a job at the moment as he has had two long periods of sickness this year due to the accident and the broken ankle - anytime before he has found it reasonably easy in this current climate to get a job - i am trying to keep a positive angle on it for my own sanity at the moment Den but it is difficult - thanks for asking about him -

thanks yogi and sqad - no infection and he syringed the right ear - I have very narrow ear passages and have had a lot of trouble with my ears over the years - he prescribed some other stuff - cant remember the name but that has been discontinued and the chemist gave me the benylin and i am to hold my nose and now to open up passages also

Apparantly I am a medical conundrum sqad - my x-rays for rheumatoid arthritis showed up nothing - its fun to be me

I get this quite a lot and was also told to hold my nose and blow as often as possible. I can see why benylin might work as it is a decongestant not just for coughs. But I mustn't argue with the Tesco Sandwich man.

I know what you mean about wrong crowds, Peri. My boy has a good circle of friends, but recently has been going out with his football team mates - they are older than him and I am not that keen on them. On Friday night, after leaving the pub they all went into town and apparently one of the boys got into a fight with a bouncer outside MacDonalds (yes I could'nt believe MacDonalds has bouncers at night either !). The bouncer called this boy a ginger c...t and the boy called the bouncer a n....ger. The bouncer grabbed the boy, and then the boy's girlfriend nutted the bouncer. They got arrested and charged with assault. My son is a witness along with the other boys.

I think in the end Peri, they will all sort themselves out, but in the meantime, us poor Mums have to do all the worrying. (:o (

Ears nose and throat all connected................obviously the original medicine doc prescribed you but was unavailable may have mentioned that it's treated also for ear fluid symptoms and chemist knows that the Benylin has the same effects, so hopefully, as sqad, may just work to clear you of the problem.
