swine flu vaccine

i'm due to have this tonight, i have slight asthma, never had an asthma attact, just get wheezy when i laugh or do excercise! i'm feeling really paraniod about getting the vaccine, keep hearing bad stories about all the nasty side effects and some perminant side affects. which is scaring me to the point of crying because i just dont know what to do! any comments please?

How old are you?....that is an important factor in my opinion.

If you are over 65 yrs old, I wouldn't have it...........otherwise have it.

i think i keep looking into it too much on the internet and all the horror stories on there about side affects and perminant neurological and respirity disorders that people kep saying about! Dam the internet sometimes it can be too helpful!

I have quite bad asthma and had the swine flu jab last Tuesday. I also had the regular seasonal flu jab at the same time. (One in each arm!). I would say that my asthma was very mildly worse for a few days and then back to normal. I had a couple of days of feeling a bit lethargic and mild muscle aches which I was told to expect by the nurse but all in all it was nothing bad at all. I would definitely say have it. Not everyone is getting the opportunity and anyone with asthma should take it.

I was worried as well but asked on here for other peoples views. All positive. Had mine last Monday and just had a sore arm! Have it done!

I rang my GP yesterday asking whether I was likely to need the vaccine as i have an underactive thyroid, therefore my immune system is easily compromised apparently, but no, I am not likely to be sent a letter by the government health dept. apparently the first people on the government list (as they knwo everyone's medical condition) are small children, pregnant women, people with low immume systems or those living with people with similar, which means people with cancer etc. What did your letter from the health dept tell you was the reason you are on the list? was it the asthma? Not being mosy, just curious as to how the systme is working nationally, as it is not a local thing done by the GPs.

Dot, you have well controlled hypothyroidism......why should you have a compromised immune system?

I don't , but I could have, I rang the GP and they explained the process for vaccines, that was my point, I now know i don't get one until later on. The fact that I have already had a course of Tamiflu also means that i cannot have a second course apparently.

the letter just says" is being offered to all our patiants who would be at rist of complications if the catch swine flu - for example people known to have heart, kidney or chest problems, diabetics and people with weak immune systems." It doesnt specifically say its because i have asthma but as I dont have anything else i would pursume that to be the reason!

That must be so then, my GP just said that the government health dept had a record of every person's medical status and this is how they are contacting people.

Sqad why do you say not have the jab if your over 65? what would happen

i am 37 have astma had my jab 2 weeks ago and apart from a sore arm for a day or 2 i have been perfectly ok

I had impaired lung function and had the jab with no bad results at all. Not even a lump on my arm.

tamiira. Just a personal choice. The very rare risk of getting a neurological complication of vaccination is not worth the risk of the minor illness of which sine -flu would be to a healthy person over the age of 65.

Data from a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that, for those patients hospitalised as a consequence of Influenza A H1N1 ( "swine flu"), just over 30% had Asthma. Therefore, Asthmatic patients are high on the priority vaccination list, and rightly so. Other high risk factors associated with hospitalisation in this study were diabetes and a weakened immune system.

If you have Asthma, Babalicious, I would definitely recommend you follow your GPs advice and get the vaccine.

As of early December 2009 in the UK, some 1.6 million doses of Pandemrix have been given to front line healthcare workers and priority cases. Number of adverse reactions reported is roughly 1100, almost all of which are minor, the vast majority of reports exhibiting flu like symptoms for up to 24 hours or so.

There have been many websites predicting all sorts of overblown claims about the alleged dangers of this vaccine, ranging from the absurd conspiracy allegations through to the merely hysterical assertions over additives and adjuvants. These have all been comprehensively debunked, and the evidence gathered by the MHRA shows this vaccine is as safe as any other.

Sqad im asking on behalf of my mum who is 67 and has had pneumonia about 15 yrs ago which left her with asthma and prone to chest infections in the winter, she has an app tomorrow for the jab, but in two minds if to cancel or not, please could you advise if to have it or not., if possible please. Thank you
