Lump in leg. . . (could you help Sqad?) Thanks

Ok, so my husband has had a lump in his calf since Feb - seen a few consultants who are still none the wiser. It's got bigger and spasms/cramps a lot - you can actually see it pulsating when it does this. Altogether he's had an ultrasound, 2 CT scans (one with dye) and 2 MRIs (one with dye). Nothing showed up - they were ALL clear. Specialists from Royal Marsden have looked at the MRI's too and said they are pretty certain it's not cancerous. So far my husband has seen a:
general surgeon who referred him to an
orthapedic surgeon who referred him to a
vascular surgeon (who said there was no vascular prob)
and now back to the orthapedic surgeon!
The orthapedic surgeon is not really happy to deal with my husband's leg because NOBODY can work out what's wrong!!
He's got to have a biopsy under general anaesthetic next week. If biopsy comes back clear (which the consultant is expecting), he will refer him to a neurologist! In the meantime he has to put up with pain. He is on crutches, cannot put his foot down properly, has spasms every couple of hours and it keeps him awake a lot at night. We are so stressed and annoyed that nobody is prepared to remove it. He is taking Naproxen and painkillers (only for the last week though)
Any ideas/similar experiences from anyone would be good?? Also, what will the neurologist do?
We've had a very stressful time and lots of 'it looks cancerous, let's do another scan' all year!!

Commy....let us try and calm down ( I know that it is difficult) and realise that you have had the best medical care and investigations.

Secondly, my opinion is from someone that you have never met and is a faceless situation on a monitor screen, so with those conditions:.......my opinion.

It is not malignant (cancerous) and he is not going to have his leg amputated.
It is a quite rare condition.
All the investigations are negative which happens often in medicine but disconcerting for the patient.
Muscle biopsy seems to be the obvious next choice, although I cannot see how a Neurologist could help.

My guess is that it could be a diffuse leiomyoma which would be difficult to remove, but would not be fatal if left.

Keep me informed, as I am very interested in the outcome.

No biopsy tomorrow now - the consultant decided he needed to be seen by the neurologist first. Specialist in Marsden fuming as appointment will take another 6 weeks!

Will you update you as soon as we have any news. Your diagnosis may be a possibility, it was mentioned the day after you suggested it!
