C-sections! Spinal blocks wearing off during procedure?

Anyone else experienced the spinal block wearing off halfway through?

i didnt experience it wearing off, but i could feel pinching when they were stitching me up, it wasnt nice and now i get really itchy where they cut

Unfortunately I did - but they topped it up (they had warned me that it might happen) - not an experience I would want to go through again.

it should be fine,are you choosing to have a c section or is there medical reasons for it i.e baby too big etc, mine was too big and then to top it all breech!!! celebs choose to give birth through csection

Carron81 - try not to worry about it. This was my fourth birth (first one horrible, second one easy peasy, thrid one too easy peasy - had her in the kitchen by mistake). They made me have a c section because of my quick births and the fact that I was having twins and I was really scared but it was not as bad as I thought it would be and when it did start wearing off I just started to feel really weird (like I was going to faint). Maybe it takes longer to get two babies ready to come out or something and that's why it wore off or maybe having two sets of hands in there has some effect! Honestly, it was not that bad but I would advise that even if you are frightened of moving afterwards you will feel much better for getting up as soon as they think you should. Good luck. x

Its a bit of both, I chose to have one then after speaking to a lady that was called into theatre for my daughters birth for a 2nd opinion she said I was doing the right thing and she would have advised it

i had a bad forcep/ventouse delivery with my first and they were about to start the ceserean but they got her out. I had a really bad tear and 8 month recovery. They said if i have a normal birth then the tear will just go the same even if the birth is fine

also, with this pregnancy the baby's head is down but back to back and that was one of the problems with my first. she wasn't back to back but just not in a good position so my midwife is wondering that as i have a small frame there may not be enough room for the baby to get in the right position for a normal birth.

Carron - Didn't mean to alarm you! It was fine despite the block wearing off, it really was. And I would happily choose a C-Section again! And it certainly took nothing away from a really amazing experience. I had a very long labour and my baby girl was way too big (she was my first baby and weighed 10lb)!!! Good luck.

By the end of op I was given gas and air as well to help, and I was chatting to the surgeon about my honeymoon in Cornwall! . . . so it can't have been that bad ;-)

glad to hear. how long did it take and how long did you have to put up with the effects wearing off?

with my first it they were about to start the section so i was all prepped with the spinal but i'd had lots of drugs before that as i'd been in labour all day so i probably wouldn't have even noticed if anything wore off!!!!. i had no probs with the epidural so hopefully it'll be fine 2nd time round.

this time it'll be that strange walking down to theatre

Hi Carron, I recovered really quickly and use of legs came back soon! The only small prob I had was feeling like I had a bladder infection afterwards (but this is really common apparently) it's now 3 and a half months on and I feel fine. As I said would definately have an elective again, my established labour was over 20 hours and had to push for 2 of them, so given the choice definately the C-Section.

But my baby was also back to back (she literally turned two days before) and I was almost begging for the C-Section before they agreed to the emergency procedure. But I wouldn't change any of it for the world :-)

Carron81 - really sorry,hope I haven't frightened you - I am a big baby and I really dont like hospitals (they let me go first because I was getting into a bit of a 'state' - I think it was the thought of the C Section and the reality of having two babies at once) - they talk you through it all and they tell you what to do if it starts to wear off. (I don't go to the dentist because I am a baby.) - It is all really quite quick but do listen to them afterwards and if they tell you that you are ready to get out of bed then you must try, you will feel so much better for it.
