I was thinking of having my belly button peirced for my 21st birthday but i'm afraid of the pain! Has anyone else had it done? How much did it hurt? Is it like ear piercing? In the past, my ears got infected when I had them pierced, does this mean my belly is more likely to get infected too?

Appreciate your help guys!

The ears gets infection mainly because your entire ear is made up of soft cartilages which have little blood supply. No blood supply means no delivery of antibodies, neutrophils, lymphocytes etc etc to the point of infection thus the body's immune system could not fight the invading pathogens well.

Your belly have more blood supply thus if compared to the piercing of the ears, the belly would stand a lower chance of getting an infection. But that also depends on the skill of the one piercing and the tools used to do so. Just make sure they're all sterile equipment.

However I haven't done any sorta piercing before so I wouldn't know how pain it would be. :p sorry couldn't help you with that.

oh! if you wanna know, your ears are made of soft elastic cartilages. Unlike those you find at the joints, nose, or the ribs, those are hyaline cartilages. :)
Uve had mine done and it didnt hurt at all!  I couldnt even tell when hed done it because they freeze it.  Im not just saying that like people always do i mean it!  My ears got infected when I had them done but that was because I was allergic to the metal they used.  When you have your belly button pierced they used titanium it is biologically inert so youre unlikely to be allergic to it.  Before I had mine done I did a search on goole to and theres loads of information  about it.  Hope that helps!
It doens't really hurt to have done.  I've had it done twice (grew out when pregnant) and found it hurt less the 2nd time around when they didin't freeze it.  It does take some looking after to make sure you don't get infected.

Forgot to mention, an odd fact but if you just happen to be breastfeeding at all breastmilk is brilliant at healing up piercings and fighting off infection!  Amazing stuff it is!  Also good for conjunctivitus.

I got my bellybutton pierced a long time ago and it took absolutely ages to heal!  Piercers usually say it will take about 3 months but mine took a year as it kept getting infected.  Because of where it is, there are trouser/tights lying over it which can irritate the piercing and also mean that it can be prone to infection, even if you are cleaning it twice a day.

In saying that, I love mine and couldn't imagine not having it, but just wanted to warn you that it is the piercing that is most likely to get infected and can takes absolutely ages to heal! (getting it done isn't sore at all though, just don't look while they're doing it if you're squeamish)

hiya guys.. i just got my belly button pierced yesterday. im 13. and my mom finally let me get it done. it didn't hurt. they dont freeze it. and i have no problems getting it cleaned. as long as you will use sea salts and neutrogena soap.. you will be fine. the pain.. i never noticed it went through. all i felt was the clamp to hold the skin together. so.. have fun.

As Camille said, it is prone to infection. I had mine done (and it didn't hurt at all, just make sure you go to a reputable piercing place) and it got infected quite bad and I ended up with a syst but it turned out it was due to the belly bar that I had in and I have worn rings since and I've had absolutely no problems.  Go for it!!!

I had mine done when I was 13, and I didn't feel a thing, apart from the clamp, because I was so skinny at the time, the guy couldn't get it on to my skin securely, but seriously I didn't feel the needle or the bar going into my skin. I'd go for it, the end result is always satisfying. (sp?)

P.S. When I had my ears pierced the first time, they went infected, but I"ve never had a problem with my belly button.

Hope that helps.
