After mysteriously falling off the system somehow was booked to see a specialist gastro nurse today but ended up seeing a registrar.

He said they haven't seen any signs of Crohns which is all good and was on about referring me for lactose intolerance tests when I asked him about the Sehcat scan I had done back around July. He knew nothing about it and didn't have the results but checked the results and said it's just as well I mentioned it as it shows I have bile salt malabsorbtion.

He said this could be causing a lot of the symptoms, especially my Vit D deficiency and has put me on a sachet of Questran with each meal I eat for at least the next 3 months.

Not relishing the prospect of that but am hoping I will finally get some help :)

He also mentioned something about having raised white blood cell count (I seem to have that a lot) and Eosinophils whatever they are! Something about an allergic response?

The doctor was saying it is common after abdominal surgery, removal of gall bladder etc... but none of that applies to me so wondering where it came from.

Still, it's a step in the right direction :)

Stringing together bile salt malabsorption and a high Eosinophil count, the following come to mind:

1)Coeliac/Celiac disease
2)Cows' milk intolerance
3)Soya milk intolerance
4)Fructose malabsorption

Eosinophils are specially modified white cells which come to the fore in an allergic response.

You really need to ask to see the Consultant.

Thanks Sqad :)

I've been tested for coeliac a few times and it's always come back negative. I had a period of being unable to tolerate lactose or gluten but managed to introduce them again so will watch the lactose and soya milk (I have it in my coffee in Starbucks).

He had initially said he was going to send me for a lactose breath test or similar but when he saw the sehcat results and said it was bile salt malabsorbtion he said it wasn't needed anymore as it was probably the malabsorbtion causiong the problems.

No idea about fructose so will look into that.

I am back in 4 months to see how the Questran goes and still need to get the fissure sorted, he said he was going to have a look then didn't.

I have something to help for now though so am a happy me :)
