Yes, there are arteries in your finger, you know.

thanks, but would it spurt out a few feet in the air, or just bleed heavily?

its for film sfx...thankx
The blood would be oozing, not pumping.

am probably thick but thought the heart pumped blood therefore only limbs/appendages connected to it could pump blood.
It would pump for about 10secs, then ooze, then almost certainly stop bleeding.
now if it was your arm you'd chopped off that would be interesting......
well McMouse never came back, so where do we send the flowers??
I chopped the end of one of my fingers off when I was little and although bleeding I can't remember any spectacular spurting going on.

My dad also lost spookily the same little finger in an incident with a hedge strimmer and believe he was the same.

My mum also damaged a few fingers very badly after falling off a chair while hoovering the top of a wardrobe (!).

I keep telling my brother he's next!
The knife is blunt..................I'm still sawing away.
Well when you've finished give us a High 4 1/2!
Man rings home "I'm in the Hospital, Love, but I'm OK"

"What's happened?"

"There was an accident at work and I lost a finger"

"What!" she screams "The whole finger?"

"No" he says "The one next to it!"
Japanese Yakusa have a ritual called yubitsume which entails cutting off part of the pinkie as a sign of apology if they have insulted some big cheese. Maybe I'll insult the ED and do this.
Isn't it some kind of triad thing as well, sure my dad got some mileage out of that after his accident when he was at work (teacher).
Mcmouse ,you done it yet was trying it myself but i am just a big wimp lol
Didn't read all the answers....

It pumps... believe me. I once put my hand in the cutlery draw and hit a sharp knife. I felt the knife hit the bone...yuk. Pulled my hand out instantly..as you do. The blood hit the ceiling and I had droplets of blood all over me. I was shouting to the kids to get me a cloth because it was pumping out of my finger. The amount of blood for the small cut was shocking. Makes me laugh now remembering the kids running round in a panic. I still haven't got any feeling in the end of my finger....
