I have 2020 vision, and If i've known people with glasses and i asked them how bad their eye sight was, they said 'if you wear my glasses, you'll see what i see when i haven't got them on.' But wouldn't i see the opposite?

Please tell me if i would see what they see or if its the opposite and explain it to me please.

What they mean is that the correction the glasses give them, will be equivalent to the distortion of your eyesight that wearing them to test, will cause you.
if course you won't see what they see. their glasses make them see clearly, but I guess the amount of blurring for you would be a strange kind of indication of how bad their sight is.

either way, it's a no.. anyone else's glasses would be a blur.

But won't the distortion be in the opposite direction, to what their eyes are distorted?

Perhaps, if they are longsighted, the glasses would make me short sighted? would it work like that?
If they are shortsighted and the lenses they have correct that by increasing their near point, then it wil also increase your near point. However the impact will be as Sarah says, you will just see a blur which you probably could not tell if it is long or short.
Sara.

Specsavers for you, Androcles!!
Question Author
So we're both technically right, the level of distortion they normally see, i would see, meaning i wouldn't be able to see properly, but like i said, in the opposite direction.
Specsavers? Yuk! Who wants to look like everybody else?
You think other peoples glasses are bad? You want to try walking a mile in someone else's shoes. Crippling!
Look after your eyesight, Mollykins! Believe me it is no fun when you need glasses for reading, glasses for normal living, glasses for your computer, sunglasses for all of these. Just a minute whilst I put my boiling the Kettle glasses on....

i thought people got varifocals, so they only needed one pair, you might even be able to get the light sensitive glasses as varifocals now so you can go out in the sunshine with them. Bish bash bosh, sorted, you only need 1 pair.

My eyes are the part of me that function best, probably, i get back ache, my foots busted so i can't move my little toe, i can't bend the middle finger on my left hand properly, my left elbow dislocates, i'm still getting funny pains in my neck and head, i need braces for my teeth, and the list goes on . . . .
Don't believe all the advertising about varifocals..... I've got 'em, but at best they are a good average..... the field of view is limited, so for real comfort, say reading , a pair of readers are better.
Question Author
my dad can't afford the light senstitive ones, so he has normal varifocals and a pair of long distance sunglass ones.
Mollykins yes you can get varifocals which can be used for most daily tasks also with light sensitive lenses - mine are like that. I have three different bands of lenses + the photosensitive so they go dark in the sun. However I was fortunate when I bought them to have been able to afford on the add-ons, not everyone can - and not everyone can suit varifocals, several people I know prefer to have a couple of pairs of glasses for different tasks. And they don't do absolutely everything - I am very short-sighted and it's still easier for me to take my glasses off altogether to do short-vision tasks like sewing, or reading in bed!
I am happy to say that at 87 I still only wear glasses for reading.
However,I have an Astigmatism, that is without glasses images appear overlapping (caused by my retina making the image rugby ball shaped) this is corrected by my glasses.
So,if you wore mine everything would appear oval shaped as this is what the glasses correct, you would not see a clear reading image as I do.
No you won't see what they see uncorrected by wearing their specs.

If your friend is short sighted and needs specs to see in the distance, when they are uncorrected their distance vision is blurry and out of focus but they can see near distances clearly. When you put their specs on the image you may have enough focussing power (accommodation) to see reasonably well through their specs depending on your age and you will be able to feel your eyes trying to focus. Although the image will be minified slightly also.

If your friend is long sighted then they may be able to see reasonably well in the distance uncorrected as they can focus to see far away, unless it is a high prescription, and the near vision will be harder to focus on and may be blurry if they are older and have less focussing power. when you put these specs on they will make your distance and magnify the image.

So basically the image you see wearing their specs will not be the same as their unaided vision nor the opposite.
Question Author
i'm confuddled, i thought short sighted was when you can see near things and long sighted, when you can see in the distance clearly.
Yes you are right mollykins, why are you confused? I am short sighted so I can see things near to hand but further away is blurred.
Question Author
oh yeah, i was getting confuddled which made what i thought wrong which made no sense so i was even more confudleded.
