peroxide! Hair is orange!
15 Answers
hi all. Due to funds (or lack of em haha) i decided to forego the hair salon and peroxide my roots myself. My hair is a dark brown naturally (but I have it lightened to a caramel/honey sorta blonde). Anyway....the roots are less caramel and more orange. I could colour over it but then would need to go dark again (which I don really want) anyway I can get the orange / ginger colour to a more caramel blonde? thanks in advance

(sorry). i did this myself once, so i know how painful the results are. you now have two choices: more peroxide (and risk wrecking your hair at the roots) or a trip to the salon, where your only option is to go back to your original colour (the safest dye option by far). i chose the former (well, i was only 15!) and ended up shaving all my hair off in a fit of temper after a four day bad hair day. learn your lesson and never, ever attempt to dye your hair a much different colour than your natural shade at home. it only ends in tears - for gods sake go to a salon!!!!!! x
I got my hair cut and bleached/highlighted as a model for a trainee hairdresser. It set me back about £30. I couldn't face going back to that hairdresser so went to a 'good' hairdresser.
It cost me well over £100 to fix the damage. It was like straw.
Don't take a chance with the condition of your hair.

hmmm - you are right wolf...but prob only get to hairdresser in about a week (work and all that) so what to do in the meantime? A hat? :-) I'd just like to tone down the orange a bit...even if temporary. If I'm honest the gingerish tone isn't too bad (i like ginger hair!!!) but it's because the roots (which I did mysef) are very different to the caramel colour of the rest of my long hair). I did use "blue" shampoo tonight (the sort old ladies use) to try tone it down but wont know till tomor as I've coated it in conditioner to sleep with all night(I always do that once a week to help condition)
I;m not sure if this helps..... http://www.helium.com...londe-turns-it-orange
evedawn - au contraire; i am very sympathetic. just couldn't resist a tiny giggle as ladies realise the folly of peroxide + diy hair. you only ever do it the once (if you are sensible) and i shared with you (and the rest of ab) that i was dumb enough to do it twice. at least you asked for help after the first dye!!!! for gods sake - DO NOT put any more home dye on your hair (not even a brown colour), as you need a professional hairdresser to repair the damage. there is no other way as even with a dark tone, you could damage your hair beyond repair x
just make sure you have an appropriate hat until you can afford to rectify the damage! i had to wear one for six months until my hair grew back - and i now have the rule of never doing my hair while in a bad mood....in case i get the urge to shave it off again (yes, i think i am probably that stupid!) x
My old gf once decided to colour her hair a couple of hours before we were travelling on short w/e break. Cocked it up, and it went ginger. Dark eyebrows too. Looked like a nutter, really.
We got there and checked in late evening. She went to local supermarket and bought some dark dye, and redid it in the sink in the hotel. Woman at the checkout saw her when we checked in and also (with the new darker hair) when we went out for a late drink.
Must have thought we were a right dodgy pair.

Your hair is easily corrected with professional products, sold under licence to salons; use a recommended salon.
Allergic reaction need to be tested before a color process and in a reputable salon there's no chance of scalp damage nor hair breakage. Methinks the price should be £60ish (lasting 6w = £10pw).
