I have just watched the little car video from the above link and the colours were the same as I had, but what I saw was like a kaleidoscope or stained glass type of patterning. It seemed to start in the middle of my vision, in a crescent shape and then it widened. It went off after about 20 minutes but during that time, I was really scared! There was no headache. I am 60 and have never suffered from migraine, but having read this post, if it happens again, I'll see the doctor. Good luck with your aura Joko. xx
Sounds like a migraine.
However, I had a huge floater and flashing lights a couple of years ago and was sent straight to the hospital eye clinic. It turned out to be the jelly substance behind the retina that sometimes comes away (quite common in older people)! (Can't remember what it was called).
However, it does sound more like a migraine.

I get ocular migraines, and it has never made any difference whether I have eaten a lot or none of chocolate, cheese or red wine....all sometimes blamed as causes.
But this will make one think ANYTHING can be a trigger.....
Diet Headache Migraine: Foods to avoid
Top offenders:
Cheese (except cottage, farmer's, ricotta and cream), Alcohol (red wine is the worst. Watch out for flavourings (ie vanilla) which may contain alcohol), Caffeine (especially suddenly raising or lowering your intake), Chocolate, Aged and non-fresh meats and liver (ie cold cuts), -(also watch out for products with meat and hydrolyzed protein, such as gravy and soup mixes), Soy beans, Italian green beans, broad bean pods, MSG, Nuts (especially peanuts), Yeast (especially in homemade bread and sourdough), Sauerkraut (and other aged foods)
A big problem for migraine sufferers is food with tyramine, so there is now a page dedicated to cutting down on foods with tyramine.
Another theory is that tannins are diet headache migraine link. Find out what tannins are and where you find them.
Eat with caution:
Salad Dressing, Rennet tablets, Dried fruits (including raisins), Imitation crab, Licorice, Mushrooms, Snails, Salty foods, Rhubarb, Citrus fruits, Ripe avocado, Ripe banana, Yogurt and buttermilk, Fresh raspberries, Red plums, Onions, Worcestershire or teriyaki sauce. Wheat is a trigger for some as well.

tahnks all
i had eaten chocolate cake about 3 hours earlier and had half a glass of red wine about 6 hours earlier
but i always eat and drink these things and never get migraine...
in general i occasionally, and randomly get a kind on pressure headache, kind of foggy headed ness and tightness, but there doesnt seem to be a link and i relieve it by pulling my hair upwards over the tight area......its sometimes hurts to lie on my pillow with the pressure on certain areas so i have to shift my head a bit...but generally i just carry on whatever im doing...it doesnt debilitate me
however this only happens once in a while...say every 2 months...
is that a migraine then?

Yes joko it can be - migraine comes in many forms and it sounds as if people here have suffered many of them. There doesn't have to be the crashing headache - my GP explained 4 sections - Iaura, pain, sickness and vomiting, post-migraine sensation - and any one of the 4 can be a migraine. I've had all of them sometimes in my migraine days, and sometimes only one, the flashing lights and wiggly lights. It's a sign to get off the computer, take pain killers and a wet flannel on the forehead, and REST until it passes.
I've had the vitreous detachment in my right eye too - apparently very common in we shortsighted people - frighted the life out of me as it happened in the night, it looked like sunspots in my eye. Straight round to the optician, all seemed otherwise OK.
These things are quite scary when they happen but now you know they pass in time, if it happens again you'll know the signs. I suggest you take it easy for this evening.

Glad you feel better. You talk about pressure on the head. I wear a uniform and work and our last uniform had a hat. I started to get quite bad headaches with that had and then linked them to headaches I had in the past and realised they were migraines. Like you it didn`t matter what I ate but I`m sure it`s something to do with constriction or pressure on the head. The only other link to migraines I have fathomed is when I`ve been swimming - doing the breast stroke with my head above the water (thus constricting the back of the neck) which often sets it off. I get the thick headed, fuzzy feeling first which you mentioned. Stock up on Migraleave. It`s the only thing that works
I get that too joko, I see a round geometric black and white pattern usually only in one eye at a time. I'm told it is migraine, although I never get migraine headaches, It starts in the centre of my eye and gradually widens out, then eventually disappears its a nuisance more than anything. Usually happens when I am stressed about something.
That little video link is really good, just like I get it when I do. The reason I asked if joko is female is that migraines are often hormonally linked to the monthly cycle - I could guarantee a migraine on day 2 (to add to the general unpleasantness at that time!) and when I worked with a lot of female colleagues, I wasn't the only one.
Mmmm interesting about that pressure on the head. I used to get horrible migraines as a teenager where I had no vision in one eye followed by an almighty headache for days. Have had them on and off since, but not so many in recent years.
However, went to the hairdressers about a week ago and had highlights with one of those tight rubbery caps on my head. Suddenly in the hairdressers I got a horrible migraine over one eye and felt sick - just before the cap came off in fact. As soon as the cap came off I started to feel better and gradually the migraine type headache lifted, however the mark from the cap lasted for the rest of the day.
Boxtops I am very long sighted!! Am I the exception that proves the rule about vitreous detachment? :o). Actually it was very frightening. I thought there was a storm and it was lightening and then suddenly there was this big floater. I wouldn't worry if I got it again, although they have told me to go straight to the hospital emergency eye clinic if it ever happens again, because the symptoms are the same for retinal detachment and it's always worth getting it checked very quickly as delay can cause real problems.
