Would go and see your GP though, if you're getting heavy periods. Could be a sign of fibroids. Wouldn't leave it though. I just stopped having periods, never had any odd ones at all, just stopped! Go and see your GP, zzxxee
Agree with you zzxxee, my whole cycle got more unpleasant as I go older, including heavy bleeds (I won't draw pictures, there are blokes watching) and hormonal migraines every month. I don't want to alarm you as there may be many causes, but mine turned out to be fibroids (to the extent that my examining GP asked me if I was sure I wasn't pregnant!). Long and short was, I had a hysterectomy in 1993, yippee, have not looked back since. Not a cure that everyone will want, but until you've had miserable periods, people don't know what it's like. Go see your GP, set your mind at rest if nothing else - and yes it could be menopause, onset is different for everyone.
polycystic ovarian syndrome
more likely fibroids or maybe one off the conditions where the lining of the uterus is overproduced or fails to shed properly. Sometimes it responds really well to hormones like the pill sometimes it needs surgery they might try something like a D and C and have a good look round while they are at it... although fibroids show up on an ultrasound scan . Worth seeing your Gp for a few blood tests hormone levels etc,, should be able to tell if it is early menopause, PCOS usually comes with an increase in body hair, and a bit of a bloated abdomen among other symptoms. Apparently other hormone imbalances can cause heavy periods too hence best to get it checked out
