This happened in my family on both sides and it was very confusing, the child always ended up being called by a diminutive otherwise nobody knew if you were talking about father or child. When the boys got older (on both sides) they had no privacy because letters came addressed to John Smith and the dads always opened them, they couldn't tell whether the mail was for father or son.
Fine to have Tarquin as a second namen, to carry on the line - IMHO.
