Hi my AB friends!
Following on from my previous posts, I've seen the haemotologist today, who told me I have von Willbrand's (sp?) disease - I'm borderline between type 1 & 2 so they're testing my blood again.
The only think that came out is that I shouldn't take ibuprofen, my daughter might have it and it might be worth testing her when she starts her periods, and they will let the surgeon who does my hysterectomy know, when I have it done.
My question is - will it have any affect on my life, or is it just if I ever have a big op?
Thank you x

I know its a blood clotting disorder, but I haven't heard of type 1 and type 2. The effect it will have on your life depends on how much clotting factor you have. If you have, say 80% clotting factor it will not affect you much, but if you only have say 20%, then you will need to have injections of clotting factor before a tooth extraction for example. It is passed from parent to child, so one of your parents must have had it, and that is why your children should be tested. Actually, I haven't seen your previous posts, just noticed this one as Von Willebrands is in my family. I think you should ask about aspirin as well as the ibuproen.
daffy has given you a link.
As far as operations are concerned, I worked at the Children's Hospital in Sheffield where most of the patients in the north with abnormalities of clotting were sent for operations, they had far less complications from bleeding during and after operation than those who had normal clotting mechanisms.
Apart from possibly heavy periods, your life should be normal.
