Hi, Just been prescribed the above for high blood pressure and it says on the NHS website.....

Alcohol
Alcohol can interact with certain medicines.

In the case of Ramipril:

this medicine may interact with alcohol
You must not drink any alcohol if you are taking this medicine.

Anyone have any suggestions as i do enjoy a beer.

Thanks

i take ramipril, 7.5, and have done for the last 5 years. i still enjoy a drink, and it still controls my blood pressure :)
i'm not advising you to drink whilst taking it, just telling you what i do.
I agree with ethandron............have a drink..........but in moderation.

A beer or a glass of wine daily will not do any harm.
Alcohol tends to raise blood pressure, so you're tugging in both directions. But it also dilates your blood vessels, which could lead to a sudden fall in blood-pressure. Your vascular system would be in a right tizzy, I'd think. Ask your doc - always ask your doc. Don't listen to untrained people like me

Thanks guys. Well the doc prescribed me them on monday yet he never mentioned about the booze despite having a chat about me liking a beer or two.

haven't picked the pills up yet so might speak to the pharmacist too.

Thanks again.
I have been taking it for a while and my GP suggested I have a glass of red wine (every day if I want) as it's good for the heart, plus when I got hellish cramp he suggested I drink tonic with a slurp of gin in it! (Seriously).
lucca....you have a good and sensible GP.
Oooh, I think I feel a sudden cramp coming on
am sitting here with a glass of red wine, purely for medicinal purposes you understand (it's a smooth, fruity la chasse du pape) and will shortly move on to a glass of chilled fizz (charles volner demi-sec), also for medicinal purposes.
i'm pretty sure my own gp would be all in favour too, in fact i could almost guarantee it :)
Good to hear that from you, sqad, as I rate your opinions very highly. That GP retired this year, unfortunately - I probably finished him off!
