how quickly would you expect a deep cut to heal, I cut myself last week and the wound was not too deep but due the angle it created a little flap, which naturally spread to show fat inside. As a result i had the nurse at my local doctors surgery apply paper stitches and she also put a water proof bandage over and then said leave if 5 days, did that, after 5 days the bandage washed off and found wound was still all wet, open. I left the stitches attached and let it air so it would dry out (usually I dont put plasters on because the lack of air stops them healing drying) now it has been a week and the stitches have lost the glue they came off last night taking the top little scabs to leave a still open wet wound underneath that looks not that much different than a week ago?

Is this normal to not heal like this? i have made appointment to get the wound re stuck with paper stitches I would get the proper stitches but I was told it would scar more with them?

Under my jaw line is very hurting and swollen I think that may be my glans which would mean I am fightly an infection?? Possible in the wound??

Hey Mamya. It wasn't me - not guilty!!
there are years and years of high quality research to show that wounds heal better when covered as a warm, moist (sorry B00) environment aids the healing process
That's what I had read and understood Bednobs.
I know these days they do say that keeping the wound dressed will help it heal and less scarring, Myself I will have any dressing of myself off ASAP.
Sterlise nail clippers & chop off flap then paint with New Skin (Boots), will sting momentarily = get on with life

We seem to be getting off the subject a bit.....probably my fault.

What.. the has cut his arm and not had a surgical proceedure.
I did same on Saturday..... it works !
Tambo or should it be Rambo, thats what he would do!!

I have seen better advice on here lolol, oh well it takes all sorts to make the world go round.
The trick is getting the right sort of dressing.........but the research re wound healing being better if the wound stays covered and moist is correct which is why many modern dressings only require changing every few days ideally once a week if they are not leaking... agree about the skin flap if it has been made with the cut side nearest the hand it won't have a blood supply and will die back delaying healing...
Sounds like the cut wasn't cleaned adequately before it was closed or had already become infected...

Sqad...when you were doing surgery it was probably safe to leave wounds uncovered as there were so few resistant bugs around and people understood aseptic technique when they did any sort of wound care ...Last time I worked on the wards (about 7 years ago) and did a dressing I had a small audience of junior nurses as none of them had seen a dressing done with forceps rather than just gloves..and using a properly laid out trolley not a plastic tray resting on the patients bedside table. . one of the reasons I gave up..
