chicken pox remedy

my littl'un has got chicken pox and is doing really well with regard to not itching them.
I'm putting calomine lotion on, and it's definitely helping, but he has loads on his head where I can't use the lotion.
Does anyone know of something I could rinse his hair with that will soothe and not sting?

I know if you cut chunks of cucumber and nestle them in the hair that helps- did with ours when they had it anyway and it doesn't smell or get yukky:)

i found sitting in a lukewarm bath with bicarb in it very soothing, used a cup to pour it all over my head, back, etc. or you could just make a bowl of it up and rinse his hair with that. poor thing, really uncomfortable for him.

Piriton is very good for reducing the itching all over.

why cant calamine lotion be applied to the head ?

i do apply it, but his hair is quite long and it doesn't seem to stay on the actual spot.

try calomine cream rather than lotion.

a net of porridge oats over the tap when running a bath helps too, try rinsing his hair with that when bathing him.
But piriton is possibly best way to go for general ease of itchiness

Don't forget that paracetamol/calpol (don't know his age) also soothes itching much the same as it soothes pain. Same nerve endings apparently. And a warm bath with bicarbonate of soda definitely helps, like ethandrol says. Pour it over his head while he is in the bath.

I C pox in my thirties. I clarted myself with calamine, including the wedding tackle.

Calamine cream is much nicer to use than lotion, is not as drying to the skin and when my 2 grandchildren came out in chicken pox on the same day, was used with great success on all parts of their bodies
