Tip of finger injury

Last Sunday I sliced the tip of my middle finger with a potato peeler taking part of the nail off too.Had to go to Minor Injuries Unit because it would not stop bleeding. They put steri strips on and covered it up and told me to change dressing every couple of days, don't get it wet and remove steri strips today.
I have removed the steri strips today and while the middle of the flap of skin seems ok the edges haven't sealed and it sticks up.
Do I need to do anything other than not catch it on things?

Can you get a finger stall from your chemist, to wear over the whole finger until it heals? If not I would keep a plaster on it.

I have got a plaster on boxtops but i'm not sure if the edges will heal now as it has been a week. The hospital said not to use things like gloves or a finger stall as it makes the wound sweat.

I can only suggest a bit of micropore tape then, that can breathe - and yes, be very careful!

I don't quite understand that statement......I presume you mean that it hasn't healed?

I would go back to the hospital as in my opinion, to get a satisfactory result, you need a skin graft.

Thanks sqad. The flap of skin is firmly in place it's just the edge doesn't seem to have knitted in places. It's not sore just a bit tender, my main worry is catchng it.

Thanks for the advice yesterday. Popped back to MIU this morning. Apparently the wound hadn't knitted and the skin was dead so they trimmed it up and redressed it. Keep it covered while I'm doing things and uncover it when I'm sitting watching TV etc.

Thanks sqad. While I remember, earlier this year I asked for advice on Fentanyl withdrawal as my daughter had been on them for 3 years. Well she had a very successful operation on several of the cranial nerves around her ear and is now pain free. Came of the Fentynal patches in 2 weeks with no problem at all.
Her condition was very rare Geniculate Neuralgia triggered by Ramsay Hunt Syndrome with an intial cause of shingles. The consultant who operated said his Professor who had just retired had only dealt with 2-3 cases of this in his entire career.

Interesting.....I do indeed remember....Ramsey-Hunt Syndrome is rare, I have only seen 2 cases in 40 years. Thanks for the feedback.
