Ladies Night Speech (Freemasons) PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Please can someone help. I have been seeing a FM now for a little over a year and he recently asked me if i'd like to attend a Ladies Night. My biggest concern at first was that i don't know anyone but after talking to someone that attended one recently, i have now found out that you are asked to do a speech and its compulsory!!! This is not good as i suffer from epic panic attacks when placed in situations like this. Needless to say i am absolutely bricking it and just need to know if for any reason i will have to give a speech? Thanks :)

Grasscarp is right about the long evening dress. I remember my mother and aunts used to wear those and carry evening bags too. The men usually wear tuxedos.

Why ban the Freemasons Doc? If people enjoy socialising in such a manner why should someone else advocate them being banned?! There are too many people meddling in other peoples' lives today. Freemasons are harmless enough and they give a lot of money away to many varied causes every year. Although the media don't like to feature it, the Masons are usually amongst the first to donate to international disaster relief such as eartthquakes.

As I said, I'm not a Mason but my father is. He's 80 and he spends five or more nights a week travelling around lodges and has been Master of one. He's now a Knight Templar which is one of the highest ranks of Freemasonry. I can't find much to criticise Masons for and I know they do a lot of good. There's no reason to ban them.

Well said Andyvon, I think the Masons are very misunderstood, maybe the rituals are a bit strange, but as you say they give a lot to charity.
Would disagree about the long evening dress though, at the Ladies Night I went to, all the men wore tuxedos but I would say that most of the women wore cocktail type dresses rather than full length.

It was several years ago Slinky. My father's wife still goes to Ladies' Nights but I've got so used to it over the years I don't know the details of what dresses she wears.

I'd talk to myself round the house practising things to say, what they may ask or how best to say thank you, get to know your own voice and how to talk at different volumes in case the rooms large or noisy, I suppose if peeps are right and you just say quick thank you to the important people it may be worth finding out their names in advance so you don't forget.

You are only expected to speak if he is the Lodge Master, the host. Otherwise attend and enjoy and listen how others do it until your turn hopefully.

You will only be expected to speak if your partner is the Lodge Master for the year. So just turn up and enjoy. Listen how others do it and when your turn comes around you will be more than ready to knock them cold.
