anneasquith, I agree must the worst things in creation! consoled myself my reading that they don't really like us so maybe they will keep their distance, I consider myself brave actually replying to this post!
I do not like being in enclosed spaces with a lot of people. Nor a crowd of people walking towards me. Spiders, large ones. freak me out. Snakes, worms I am fine with. Heights I am not good with at all. But for some stupid reason I went on a Zip-line whilst on a cruise holiday in Oct. OMG what was I thinking of.! I was so stupid to think I would ENJOY it.!
Spiders; I tried to be brave the other day and search for a picture of one for a resource I was making and had to very quickly turn away and get my friend to click off the page for me. I really want to get over it though as want to be able to do 'Minibeasts' topics with children at school!
I thought I was claustrophobic but lots of people tell me they would never, ever scuba dive to 60 feet so I guess I'm not - although I can move down there and can't when I'm in a confined space so I suppose it's a little different. Don't know - don't think I have any real phobias cos at the end of the day if my life depended on doing something I thought was impossible I think I would.
I can't step over gaps - grating; Brighton Pier has gaps between planks; stepping stones over a stream; the rear of my local train has wide gap and is raised too, so if I don't have time to make it to the front, I miss the train; can't get on/off tube at Bank Station (London) (famous for its Mind the Gap announcement!); or use the spiral staircase at Kentish Town station when the escalators aren't working - I have to leave the station and then it's very difficult to get to where I need to by bus/taxi but I'd crawl for miles rather than have to do it. Causes a few problems.
Like tigger...I have a horror of slimies like slugs....I need to look at the ground-because even the thought of stepping on one fills me with dread and revulsion.
I also can't cope with wide, open spaces or a lot of noisy traffic if the space is a multiple lane road.. I will avoid open spaces...it is as if I need something to hold onto-I'll feel as if I will fall over. Heights are also a baddie...especially in big theatres or auditoriums.
Nope - love spiders, snakes, rats, open spaces, confined spaces, outer spaces, inner spaces.
Ok, maybe one tiny phobia: I have a fear of people having "phobias".
ie. sticking silly labels on neurotic things from their pasts that they haven't dealt with ;-)
heights for me too...worse when I look up as well... went to the Whispering Gallery in St Pauls...panic set in and I crawled to the exit on my hands and knees...would have felt even more stupid except I met another woman doing exactly the same thing ...have also needed to be blindfolded and led down a path and steps on scarborough castle...I was ok while the path was really wide but it narrowed to about 3 feet
icthyophobia ....... fear of fish does anyone else have this
i cant eat fish
swim in the sea/ lakes
go passed yucky fishy isle in supermarkets makes me feel dizzy and sick
I don't have any phobias. Perhaps that's why I have never really understood them. I can't imagine what it is like to be simply terrified of something specific like bugs or heights. There are things I don't like. I would say deep water, as in the sea is probably my biggest fear but I will still go in for a little swim or on a boat.
My b/f got made redundant a couple of years ago. My brother stepped in and offered him a job with him until he found something permanent but boyfriend would not even try one day because it meant he would have to go up a ladder and he was petrified of it.
