I've got a really painful ear, which feels identical to the one I had about 3 years ago, and which the Dr said was an ear infection and gave me antibiotics for. I'm away on my Christmas break at the moment and can't get to the Drs - but I have got a couple of packs of Flucloxacillin 250mg caps ( I have them in my emergency kit when travelling in case I get a canula site infection/absess) Will they help my ear or make no difference?

Sorry for butting in but can't you go and see the emergency/out of hours doctor wherever you are?
sqad's consulting hours are in the morning - if you want to call back then - Thank you!

If you are still in the UK you should be able to get an appointment to see about your ear infection. I am sure that sqad will be able to tell you if these specific tablets will help.

I hope you feel better soon - earache is horrendous.

Susan
Flucloxacillin is prescribed for bacterial ear infections ... However, see a doc.
I think I have had that drug for ear infections in the past so it might be ok to carry you over until you can get to the GP
Or a pharmacist

Thanks for help - I'm out in the sticks & can't drive so getting to drs is a bit of a problem. At least I've replanned the garden and read a couple of books in the long dark hrs of the night when I can't sleep!
I had an ear infection a few weeks ago, and I was prescribed flucloxacillin, so as 237SJ says, they should help until you can get to see a doctor.....hope you feel better soon!
Allie.........yepp, Flucloxacillin would be appropriate and don´t forget Ibuprofen for the pain.
Sqad, have you got shares in Nurofen? :-)
237SJ.....I wish ;-)

Thanks again for advice. i started on them late last night, so fingers crossed it does the trick. Does Ibuprofen have asprin in it? I'm on a medical trial thatymeans that I can't take it, - for 7 years!! I've been getting through the paracetamol instead.
how long have you ahd the tablets, maybe you shouldnt take them
Ibuprofen doesnt contain Aspirin.

What tablets doe this trial involve?
Question Author
It is is called the ASCEND trial - A study of Cardio Vascular Events in Diabetes. I have a 100mg tablet of aspirin (or matching placebo) and a 1g capsule containing omega-3 fatty acids (or matching placebo). I think that they have found it fairly difficult to recruit enough of us who have had type 1 diabetesfor a long time, who don't already have some sort of heart prob. It is run by Oxford Uni I think and I'm in my 5th year!

gina32 - I've only had them since September, when my last lot expired. I only need them for their proper use very rarely. Thanks for your concern
Interesting....they already contain Aspirin and omega 3 so they are clearly not upsetting your stomach.

I would take Ibuprofen for your pain with a glass of milk...say 600mgms.
Question Author
Well I might just be having the placebo (is there an easy way of telling?) I just have to avoid anything with any aspirin in, whilst I'm on the trial
Allie....Ibuprofen doesnt contain Aspirin as I have said previously.

If there was any way of telling which one was the placebo then that would negate the whole point of the "placebo effect"

I stand by my advice above.

Thanks - I defer to your judgement. Thought that was the case .
