llo all. im in thailand right now on an island and over night i have become very sick. vomitting and something else starting with 'd' which i think you can easily assume what it is. im drinking lot and lots of water but just keep bring it back up. i have dehydration sachets but is there anythign more i can do?

i dont think its dengue fever as i dont have a headache and dont think i have a temperature... my muscles dont ache alot so this is why i thinki its not that,
but how did i get it? should i just carry on lying here? whats the best thing to eat??

don't worry about eating but do keep drinking. sips will stay down better than larger amounts. Use the dehydration sachets, if you run out then a pinch of salt and a level tablespoon of sugar in CLEAN water. Once the fluid is staying down reliably then anything bland and a little salty for food, crackers or crisps would be okay. as to how you got it, bugs are everywhere :-(
Yes, there is. You need an injection to stop the vomiting and you need to seek medical help re.assessment of your electrolyte and fluid state.

In the meantime, continue the dehydration cachets, do not try to eat. stay in bed, and if it continues for more than another 4hours, then seek medical help.

The injection is Stemetil and it will settle the vomiting.

sqad. your worrying me...
i need an injection? is it really that serious? its 1.38pm right now and i think it started around 7.50am...
Question Author
p.s i think if i walk around to try and find somewhere could be sick.
lumi....I donot intend to worry you, but the vomiting does need addressing.....give it another 4 hours.
Question Author
ok. i will. whats the average time for vomitting? 1 day? 12 hours?
lumi...there is no "average time"....it depends on the "bug".

Keep us informed.
Question Author
ok i will do. thank you.
Question Author
ok so i think the bottom half has calmed down a little now and ive only been sick once since. i dont want to jinx it as my tummy still feels a little funny. but i think i might be getting better but not sure...
lumi....good......dont push the food yet.......perhaps in 6 or 8 hours time, then follow woofgangs good advice.
lumi, I had a bug here in the UK last year and I had your symptoms for 24 hours, I ate nothing for 48 hours, just water and the rehydration solutions. I could eat the next day. If you are just having a complete clear out then that's what it is - but keep an eye on it, if you have a fever etc make sure you seek medical help.
Question Author
ok i will take all this on board.
i have to admit i did eat 3 crackers cause all that was coming up was water.
thing is im on the pill right now, i took it but if im sick again then it wont work will it...?
Glad it seems to be improving. Hope you're fully better soon.

Ginger is quite good for nausea if you are still feeling sick when you've let your system rest and can eat a little.

If you are having problems getting fluids in, you could try sipping rehydration fluids slowly through a straw.
lumi, you are right to be cautious about the pill, you may have already got it out of your system - use a barrier method again for a few days just to be on the safe side!
Just continue the pill as usual..........you should be fine.
well i'm guessing you don't really feel like having sex at the moment anyway??
My sister in law had a sickness bug last Christmas when she was on the pill. I now have a gorgeous 3 month old baby nephew :)
bednobs.......was that post addressed to me ?..........;-)
no
bednobs....it was a bloody joke...................:-(
